  • AVID DV 25 Codec for Viewing

I’ve received an AVID DV25 Quicktime movie from a client (Viewing on a Mac), but I’m unable to view the clip in Quicktime because of the specific AVID codec used. They what us to add graphics to the file in AE and I’ve searched for a free codec download but have come up empty handed. Is there no free viewer codec for the AVID DV25 format available for download?

    Thanks!

Do you have an Intel Mac?
If so, you’ll need to download the Avid codec, and to view Avid QTs, open Quicktime under Rosetta.
Soon the universal binaries will be out, but for now that’s the way to go with Intel inside.

The short answer is no. They should have known to export the file without the Avid codec. They should have given you an animation or photo jpeg quicktime file. Get back to them and get a proper export.

Scratch my replies. I didn’t realize the Avid website had the codecs available for free now. Sorry.

I provided the link for all the Avid codecs including DV and HD. The only Avid codec that is not distributable is the dead AVR and MPEG IMX codec (licensing issues).
