September 11, 2009 at 1:35 pm in reply to: Will Flip Ultra HD connect to a non-Intel Mac?

Andy, thanks – Perhaps I’m confused. I don’t care about their software at all. I just want to get the video out of the thing and into FCP on my (non Intel) G5. That’s what I need a yes or no answer on from them – (still trying with them) or someone who’s done this. I would think the G5 would handle it, but who knows?

Walter – thank you – HIDDEN in the iLink menu was a toggle to downconvert – even though there were plenty of downconvert options in the VCR menu.

Thanks Walter. NO THANKS Sony. Or does everyone else on the planet but moi know what iLink is about ?

    Camera is Sony’s HVR Z7U

Checked – the Menu says Video Out > COMPONENT > 1080i/480i and within that the 1080i/480i is selected (as opposed to 480i)

There are separate down convert/squeeze settings in the menu area that I have not selected.

In the VCR area everything this is set to HDV.

Not sure what else to do.

Could the Firewire 400 connection possibly have something to do with it?

Hi Paul – no experience with that specific configuration but I’ve always found your money is best put to RAM when the clock speed difference is fractional. Bus speed is also important, as you no doubt know. Are there differences there? Finally – speed is relative. If it’s been awhile since you’ve installed near CPUs – you’ll probably be thrilled with either unit. Save the quid for a good brown pub ale and your favorite mate…. 🙂

  • I can capture using the “Capture Now” method – was trying to avoid that.
I marked the TC by clicking on the Mark IN and Mark OUT buttons
When you say “If you adjust your IN Point a few frames…” are you referring to the In Point of each clip? And if so – how many is “a few?” I presume you’re adjusting it out – away from the previous in point?

    Tnx

I should – I’ve tried this several times, usually pulling the clips from the middle of the scene, so there should be plenty of additional scene in front for pre-roll. OR – is pre-roll something that needs to be set somewhere?

July 23, 2009 at 8:55 pm in reply to: NTSC to PAL – Best method?

Sorry to interrupt the discourse on FCS 3 – but thanks to everyone who chimed in on this. I know you can get tired of answering the same question, but with as many returns as I got searching “NTSC to PAL” – and many off-topic – it will take the rest of the day to read through these. Maybe this is something that needs to be in the FAQ.

I did – and got a few thousand returns. I also checked the FAQ.

    Anyone else?

June 24, 2009 at 3:48 pm in reply to: Drawing a line around a shape…

Pen, pencil, computer drawn line, quill, just needs to be thin, as opposed to thicker. We’re trying to simulate a process called wire EDM, where a thin, electrically charged wire cuts precision shapes in metal. Very precision stuff – for surgical instruments, etc. So – thru the magic of video – we’re going to cut their logo out of metal.
