  • NTSC to PAL – Best method?

QUESTION – What is the recommended best method for getting PAL out of an NTSC sequence in FCP?

BACKGROUND: Naturally, after the video was shot and edited, the client said, “And oh, yea, we want translations in Spanish, Chinese and Italian and we don’t know what countries the disks will be played in!”

MORE DETAIL: (Having decided not to shoot the client in the current economy)…
I’ve read the threads on whether most PAL machines will play NTSC and have decided not to take the chance. I’m recommending two identical disks – each with all versions – but one disk is NTSC and the other PAL. STILL, I need to know what’s recommended for creating the conversions. Sounds like FCP and Compressor can both convert. Any thoughts appreciated.

I did – and got a few thousand returns. I also checked the FAQ.

    Anyone else?

Sorry to interrupt the discourse on FCS 3 – but thanks to everyone who chimed in on this. I know you can get tired of answering the same question, but with as many returns as I got searching “NTSC to PAL” – and many off-topic – it will take the rest of the day to read through these. Maybe this is something that needs to be in the FAQ.

Like Dean, I have made a project in FCPro that Inow want to send to my relatives who only can play the work (DVD) on a PAL TV. The project, mostly stills, was made in FCP in NTSC. Attempts to copy the original and paste in the new PAL project don’t fully work after rendering. Music is good and SOME clips work, Must be a way to paste, import that I’m not aware of. I am not going to start over. Fred
