I’m actually not increasing the size of the NTSC SD. I laid it into the timeline at 100% and 75%. I have a fast Firewire Drive I can add – but just learned my firewire port has gone bad – and the computer would not be back from repair before the project is due.

I need the 16×9 size – is there a size and compressor setting that could lighten the load?

thanks again – sorry for so many questions. Client needed the project before I could get the system set correctly.

I’m not sure how to calculate the file size and data rate. The project is on the PowerBook’s internal drive, which was fine until I got about 1:40 into a 4 minute project.

What would require less power than the Photo – JPEG compressor setting?
Would it help if I down sized the sequence setting from the current 1280×720 HDTV 720p (16×9)
    to HD 960×720 (16:9) ?

Can I switch sequence settings without harming the quality of the project? Most of this project is still images and laid over a motion background which I can put together in any size. There is some – not much – NTSC SD video and there will be lots of titles.

I really just need a 16:9 format that can be output for laptop playback. Anything I can do to reduce horsepower requirements would be helpful.

Thanks – This will also help me as I determine what new equipment to install.

Yes – and noticed as I was reinstalling. That was the problem. When upgrading Final Cut Studio and Final Cut Pro, the applications must be left where the installer disk originally placed them, at the root level inside the Applications folder. They can’t be in a folder of their own for convenience’s sake.

Thanks very much! Everything upgraded fine – and automatically through Software Update – when the applications were where they belong.

As far as I know, I’ve been upgrading everything with Software Upgrade just the way Apple wants me to, with the exception of moving beyond OS 10.4.11. This is the same OS level I’m at on a G5 Dual, with FCP at v 6.06.

The only other upgrades I have not added on this machine are iLife items, which I don’t use.

I may have to wipe the drive and start over – but first – if anyone has any further ideas – I’m open! And thanks!

Yes -I ran SOFTWARE UPDATE. It’s not showing anything for FCP. So I downloaded the software from Apple’s site, run that, it says it’s installed but nothing changes when I open FCP. It’s still 6.01

Sounds like we’re using the same machine. – the G5 early Dual – I experienced the same thing with the video from the Ultra HD I picked up. Had not thought to use Streamclip to convert – What’s the best format you’ve found to convert TO ?

    Thanks for your help!

I think it fixed itself when I unplugged the camera – which I was using as a deck. Does that sound logical?

    tnx

Yes – that’s fabulous! Thanks very much. (Sorry, but I’m a visual learner.) Even better – access to the native H.264.

thanks again and have a great weekend.
