Is there some secret I ‘m missing to upgrading Final Cut Pro from 6.01 to 6.06 ? None of the upgrades I’ve downloaded and attempted to install seem to take. FCP continues to stay at 6.01. The 6.06 upgrade says I need 6.05, the 6.05 says it’s installed but never shows up when I get get-info or about FCP

I’m trying to upgrade on a Powerbook running 10.4.11 and a 2.2 Ghz Intel Core Duo processor.

I have 6.06 on the same OS on a G5 duo – so I know it runs on 10.4.11 without Intel.

    Any help appreciated.

Yes -I ran SOFTWARE UPDATE. It’s not showing anything for FCP. So I downloaded the software from Apple’s site, run that, it says it’s installed but nothing changes when I open FCP. It’s still 6.01

I would say that you should get rid of your prefs file.

Or I would suggest you do a clean install of FCP.

You said that software update isn’t showing anything for FCP, but is it showing something else? There are some updates that have to happen before the Pro Apps updates show up and can be installed. The Apple Update feature is smart and knows these things, if you try to manually update you will make mistakes that it simply won’t make. So, quit trying to be smarter than Apple and let them make your life easier.

As far as I know, I’ve been upgrading everything with Software Upgrade just the way Apple wants me to, with the exception of moving beyond OS 10.4.11. This is the same OS level I’m at on a G5 Dual, with FCP at v 6.06.

The only other upgrades I have not added on this machine are iLife items, which I don’t use.

I may have to wipe the drive and start over – but first – if anyone has any further ideas – I’m open! And thanks!

By any change have you moved the FCS apps out of the applications folder of put them into a folder with in the applications folder.

If they are not in the applications folder just like the original installer put them then software update will not know they are there and will therefore not update them

Yes – and noticed as I was reinstalling. That was the problem. When upgrading Final Cut Studio and Final Cut Pro, the applications must be left where the installer disk originally placed them, at the root level inside the Applications folder. They can’t be in a folder of their own for convenience’s sake.

Thanks very much! Everything upgraded fine – and automatically through Software Update – when the applications were where they belong.
