Hi Matt – Yes – brought them directly into the FCP timeline – so far everything seems good. Thank you!

Tried it – didn’t work. Tried various permutations of the filter – also no luck. I think the best thing is to get a new board and keep the Media 100 isolated and on its own. Thanks for all who chimed in here. Always appreciated.

I plan to play with it a bit more. If I find success I’ll let you know.

Bret – are you thinking reverse the fields as soon as I bring this into Final Cut?

(seems the only way to do it but I’m no expert in this area) -thanks-

Traveling and not editing at the moment but I’ll give it a try – I presume you’re thinking reverse the fields when I bring it into FCP, before I start editing? (I think that’s the only way that makes sense.)
    thanks

I’m traveling and reading this but will try reversing the fields to see what happens. Got to get to bottom of this. Thanks

I’ll double-check to see if FCP automatically added the shift field feature… but I don’t think so. The sequence setting says lower field after the clip has been added.

The video is 720×486 lower field dominant. Dale is correct. The old M100 was 640×480. Upper field dominant. I can run either on the P6000 board – so I run 720×486 – lower.

John’s idea – You might want to try converting this stuff to 8 Bit Uncompressed or Pro Res using Compressor (Advanced Format Conversions).
is interesting. I’ll give that a try also.

Any other thoughts appreciated – thanks for the ideas !

It would also be worth it to play back the cassettes – however good or bad in audio quality – from a quality cassette deck. Low end players are inherently plagued by rotten signal-to-noise ratios, wow and flutter. A good deck can help minimize this. I write this only because cassette decks tend to be disappearing from the marketplace. Haven’t used one in years.
