January 24, 2009 at 1:16 pm in reply to: QuickTime 7.6 RELEASED!!!

The advantage of 7.6 is for those off us who suffered through 7.5.5 – which was not compatible with Media 100. You can stay on 7.5 for now…. (Watch those Apple OS upgrades carefully) – and install 7.6 after Wick and a few others more knowledgeable than I get done beating it to death (apparently with old McCain Palin bumper stickers), then install and blissfully avoid the issues of 7.5.5. Things got so cranky on my end with 7.5.5 I ended up doing a completely new OS install. (Whew!) Thanks to Wick and the others who populate this site regularly and make my life easier.

Hope is here and it’s name is Wick.

Glad I could help – but the credit goes to someone over the Final Cut forum – which is where I found this. Nice when forums can reach across the aisle (as it were) to get something done.

Wick – thanks but I may have gone full circle. After reinstalling the OS and eliminating the finder freezing – I’ve had to reinstall Final Cut Studio which – after reinstall – tells me it won’t work without 7.5.5. ()#(*$)#!!!) Which means I’ll probably have to jump up to 7.5.5 (from the current 7.4) and then back down – unless I can find a 7.5 installer.

Anyone know of one for OS 10.4 ?

    And
[Floh] And, from what I have heard there will be a QuickTime 7.6 update which will fix the Media 100 codec problems.]

Anyone know when the 7.6 might be out?

    thanks!

November 16, 2008 at 2:37 pm in reply to: MUST I re-install Final Cut Studio ???

I’ll check to make sure I don’t have more than one version of QT installed. I had to go backward from 7.5.5 to 7.5 so that I could continue to use files edited on another system (Media 100 – I use both systems) – and that’s when the initial trouble began. I’ll search for extra versions of QT, remove, if that doesn’t solve I’ll reinstall FCP from the ground up – but will wait to do an erase of the drive. That would take a lot more work –
    thanks

Reinstalled the OS and brought it up to current levels – 10.4.11 I think. QT is separate – I’ve come up to 7.4. Seems to have solved the folder issue.

    thanks!

Floh (or any one else) – Have you heard of anyone having difficulty with their finder blanking out momentarily after downgrading from 7.5.5 to 7.5 ? I did the downgrade 2 weeks ago (Apple – thanks for such a great UPgrade) and about that time my folders started suddenly closing. I noticed the Finder was also blanking out at the same time – (eg., the desktop just went flat blue for a moment, then back to normal except for the folders.) Since I’m a folder kind of person, this has become very annoying.

Today I reinstalled the software and am about to upgrade from OS 10.4 to OS 10.4.11 to get some other software working – and I suspect I may have to go backwards again to 7.5.5.

I’m just hoping the backwards move wasn’t what started this in the first place.

    Thanks!

Here’s a trick I use in Final Cut – Don’t know if it will apply to your application but the instructions are generic enough that they might.

Highlight the clip you want to deinterlace.
Duplicate it and place on a second video track
    Set clip opacity to 50%
Apply the deinterlace filter to V1 with the LOWER setting selected
Apply the deinterlace filter to V2 with the UPPER setting selected.
    Render and export as needed.
    Gives me very good results.

Thanks, Twann – Can you post the directions for getting back to 7.3 using Pacifier? I’ve only used Pacifier once (to get back to 7.5 from 7.5.5) and I’m not sure of what steps I should take to go back farther. I’m sure it would help others who also have the Finder Freeze issue. Hopefully it will help me.
    thanks

Is anyone else getting Finder Freezes after downgrading to QT 7.5 from 7.5.5 ??

I’m considering re-installing the OS to see what happens. –

My problems certainly not that serious – just the Freezing Finder issue…
