Michael – You’re right. I remember when my dream was to work on a six plate Steenbeck.
    Ahh, the days.

October 31, 2008 at 6:29 pm in reply to: Reverting from QT 7.5.5 to QT 7.5

Wick – others – Ran into this issue yesterday. But before I revert –

I basically work by importing legacy Media 100 videos into Compressor (I also use Final Cut Studio)

Anyone aware whether reverting to 7.5 will cause an issue with FCP ? (In case any of you are running both sets of software)

    Thanks

Got it – thank you. OS10 is so stable I no longer think of things like trashing prefs and a restart.

October 3, 2008 at 8:35 pm in reply to: Travel/Customs Advice – headin’ to Canada

I’ll try the thread – thanks. Really had no idea where to look. We’re renting lighting equip but will drive across carrying a small HD camera. Spoke with Canadian customs. Should be no problem with them. Will get some ownership documentation for bringing it back.
    tnx

August 21, 2008 at 1:29 pm in reply to: When is PAL an issue?

This confirms what I thought – that online, NTSC and PAL go out the window.

BUT – I will check on frame rate. Why might this be an issue? (Most of what I put on the web goes online at 15 fps, just about half of the SD frame rate. )

    August 14, 2008 at 1:53 pm in reply to: Jaggies/Interlacing – but a problem

Hi Ed, – viewing on a computer monitor, (in Final Cut) with everything rendered, as far as I know. In the interim, I’ve fixed the issue but not sure how. I created a new photoshop version of the logo from the original illustrator file – made certain I adjusted it for square pixels when I resized it – and added an alpha channel. I don’t think the first logo I was using was adjusted for square pixels nor did it have an alpha channel. I also created that file in significantly higher resolution, (600 dpi rather than 300 dpi which I usually use). The LiveType also became sharper – tho I didn’t touch that. I’m going to create another version and try some movement on the logo – and see how that works. Does anything in particular that I’ve described sound like the reason for the problem?
    thanks

  • Hi David – thanks. I’ll go back and double check field orders thru the process.
Not sure I was clear on the Compressor/Flash thing. What I do is use Compressor’s QT Component to export my video as a Quicktime Animation with an Alpha channel. I take that file and convert it to Flash using Flash’s Flash 8 Video Encoder. The software works well and insures the Alpha channel will be included in the Flash .flv file.

Any other thoughts you have – or anyone elses’ would be greatly appreciated.

  • Updated info –
Original green screen video is SD (Sony DVCam DRS300) brought in thru an analog card (Media100 – I believe -top field dominant ) -then directly into After Effects to add the panels, text. Exported as an animation quick time – brought into Final Cut/Motion to do the chroma key. (Just learning FCP, etc.) Exported using the QT Component as an Animation/alpha etc. Used Flash 8 Video component to create the actual Flash video. Thru all of this we have kept the video full size, 720×486… Shrinking the video only shrinks the video. The interlacing remains.
