  • MUST I re-install Final Cut Studio ???

Posted by Dennis Dean on November 15, 2008 at 10:06 pm

I had to reinstall the OS on my dual G5 to take care of an incompatibility between some other forms of QuickTime I use and QT 7.5.5.

Now I can’t get Final Cut Studio to open – only Compressor and DVD Studio.

Wondering if anyone has a solution other than re-installing the entire FinalCut Studio?

    tnx

If it were me, I’d reinstall it all from the ground up. Choose erase and install from the OS disk to do this. Back up the data you want to keep first, or buy a new one to install cleanly an OS, then install the apps over that totally updated OS.

You have more than one version of QT installed? Why? Bet that drives FCP a bit nuts.

I’ll check to make sure I don’t have more than one version of QT installed. I had to go backward from 7.5.5 to 7.5 so that I could continue to use files edited on another system (Media 100 – I use both systems) – and that’s when the initial trouble began. I’ll search for extra versions of QT, remove, if that doesn’t solve I’ll reinstall FCP from the ground up – but will wait to do an erase of the drive. That would take a lot more work –
    thanks

Are you using an AJA card? The drivers for Media100 and FCP are not compatible and you would need them on separate boot partitions. If not make sure you run all the updates.
