i’d stick with a AJA Mini coverter. they have D to A composite but you’ll be better off with a component version, but then you’ll need a component monitor. Terrestrial Composite broadcast is on its way out in 2009(and it sucks anyway), at least thats here in the USA.
you can even go with a HD link HD-SDI to DVI and just plug a good monitor like the apple cinema display and that’ll work good..

i had serious problems with 6.6.2’s firmware. Load 6.4 on a machine and see if that fixes it..

well the good thing is that you are going from a progessive format 720p to interlaced 1080i. You are probably better off editing in 720p which is IMHO better than 1080i (greater vertical rez)and just rendering your sequence to 1080i 50/59.94. the only boxes that do a decent job are the like of the Terenex Snell etc, and even the HDCamSR does a good job at it. IMHO Blackmagic is hit and miss, somethings they do great and some things they try to do and just do not do well.

it does double the image size to 1440×972? but will not fill the 1920×1080 screen. and 720p displays at 1280×720, doesnt fill either..

You can probably cheat/reverse the field order by moving the captured dv footage up one pixel in your sequence..

Occasionally My FCP sys just has to be rebooted.. though i dont have a HDCam deck, I have a HDCamSR. On the SR you have to set the rs422 to output either 24f code or 30f code because of the frame convert option. Your HDSDI may be 24f and your HDSDI for your frame converter is probably at 30f, you just gotta tell the machine control (which is talking to FCP) to output the right timecode..

and PAL (720×576)field dominace is upper, ntsc(720×486) is lower.. i’d go with a 10 bit uncompressed though 8 bit’s are a little smaller..
