  • simple question on decklink card

On the cheap Decklink SD card (300.00), does the BNC composite out carry audio or do you have to pull it from the digital coaxial. If it is the digital out, what is the cheapest way to convert that to analog.

    Thanks

    Reggie –
it bothers me that no one answers these questions on this forum. This is a simple question.

All Blackmagic cards handle EMBEDDED AUDIO along with the video flow. So, you can have the cheapest Decklink card, and the digital audio will flow along with the digital video signal, to allow you to get the audio in and out of a Digi Beta or Beta SX VTR (for example), without any additional audio equipment or converters.

The embedded audio applies to the SERIAL DIGITAL VIDEO SIGNAL. If you want analog audio, you will need a converter. If the card you choose has SPDIF audio output, you can purchase a pair of speakers that have SPDIF input (like the Edirol speakers) that are very inexpensive.

The Behringer SRC2496 is a very inexpensive converter to convert AES or SDPIF to analog. The Decklink SD at $295 does not have analog outputs, just SPDIF, and you will need a converter like this to hear analog audio.

Thanks soo much.. I am going straight to a video monitor. No deck. It is a little on the old side. Panasonic CT 2086 Y It has BNC inputs and Single rca audio jacks. Will the audio come through the bnc on that monitor or do I have to convert it. the Card is coming today so I will know soon enough. think I will go the route of the spdif speakers

there is no analog audio off of this card. Go with the Edirol speakers, it’s it cheapest solution.
