Apologies if this was mentioned, I didn’t have time to read the entire thread, but thought this device might interest you:

[Denis O’Keefe] ” It comes with a six inch pigtail that goes from fujinon to the EX camera lens remote. I’m missing that six inch connector.”
Interesting, and perhaps the plot thickens? I wonder if, with the adaptor, one could use a Fujinon zoom control and perhaps they don’t want people to have that option. You can pick up a used Fujinon control for a couple of hundred dollars, and they are far far superior to any of the aftermarket units I’ve tried, although I must say I’ve never used the Libec one. Looks very much like the Zoe unit made in Germany, which I purchased for a Z1. Compared to a ‘real’ control, it’s just awful.
I’d love to test this and see if it would work, so if anyone in the New York area has this adaptor cable and an EX, and they’d like to try out my Fujinon zoom control…….

Looks like you need Sony’s Transfer software. From the Sony UK site:
“The PDW-U1 extends the IT credentials of XDCAM by offering a simple and portable drive that can be used with a PC or Mac for viewing purposes (using free Sony software) or full read/write* access with a compatible NLE.”
and from a Sony US site:
“Once installed, the software enables FCP users to mount Professional Discs into the Mac’s Finder by simply plugging in a Firewire/i.Link cable from an XDCAM camcorder or deck. Proxy A/V content can be browsed directly, and the full quality content imported into FCP. Edited sequences can be exported directly back onto a connected XDCAM disc.”
The software download link is on the same page:
https://www.sonybiz.net/biz/view/ShowContent.action?site=biz_en_EU&contentId=1166605189229But your question remains….. once the disk is mounted on the finder, can it be accessed over your network?

Don’t you just need the missing adaptor? The cable looks, from the pictures I can find, to be hard wired to the unit, which may explain their answer. Is it…. or does it unplug from the unit?
I did find a 2.3 meter extension cable for $100:

Thank you Sean and Arnie, that indeed resolved the problem! It is called the PMU reset button, and in case anyone finds this thread trying to resolve such an issue, here’s the Apple instruction page for resetting it:

What a terrific resource the COW is. Again, many thanks to you both, and now, back to work!

[Denis O’Keefe] “Hi Craig, I tell them too – along with “ten hours is portal to portal”, “even if we did eat yesterday, we still need a meal break today”, “a bathroom break isn’t really optional”, etc etc etc. “
Brilliant, Denis! Oh, and that meal break, it’s ON the clock.

[Jiri Fiala] “in Apple world, you use backspace to delete things. In FCP, Delete does “ripple delete”, called extract edit in Avid. It automatically shifts all incoming clips to close the gap.
“There are two delete keys on Apple’s extended keyboards and they act differently. Using delete on the main part (next to the +/= key) on a chosen clip in FCP 5.1.4 does not do a ripple delete on my system. It merely cuts the chosen clip, nothing else moves. That might be the Backspace key on a pc keyboard, but it’s labeled delete on all four of the Apple keyboards I’m looking at. Using the delete key on the navigation portion of the keyboard (to the left of the End key) does to a ripple delete.
On a non extended keyboard system (My Powerbook for example) the one and only delete key also does not move any other clips.
Your mileage may vary,

I’m thinking Michael meant that EX1 owners would like a similar option?
There are some interesting ideas in this article, which is written for underwater photography but deals with using magnifiers for lcd screens:
https://www.camerasunderwater.info/optics/lcd_mag.html
And Hoodman makes a 3″ magnifier. Their H3-C Magnifier Kit has a hood and magnifier combination. Probably too small for the EX1’s 3.5″ lcd, but worth a look and perhaps lobbying them to make a larger one would be effective.

[Paul Zwicker] “TK-76 with no shoulder pad did do a number on me over the years. “
Bunch of young whippersnappers! I blessed RCA when the TK-76 came out and we could throw the Norelco PCP-90s overboard as boat anchors. Hell we could barely carry 100 feet of TV81 camera cable, affectionately know as horse-@$#!
But we digress. I agree the ergonomics of the EX1 are horrible. Like other posters I too find a shoulder mount is a great addition. I’ve owned four different kinds and my favorite is still the simplest, least adaptable one I picked up for something like $40 at a photo shop. I usually don’t have my shoulder in the cut out, but just rest the back most tip of the brace on my shoulder. It makes a world of difference with any of these little cameras.
Now back to the digression and a telling story about RCA. Many years ago I was shooting behind home plate on the road with the Blue Jays. We hired local utility people and my cable puller was a retired engineer from RCA who had worked on the TK-76 project. I was shooting with a Fernseh hand held, a piece of gear designed for the Spanish Inquisition I think, so the subject of ergonomics came up and I asked him how much input RCA got from operators when they designed their gear. Input? he replies, they never talk with anybody who actually uses the equipment.
That figured. And when their very last broadcast camera, the TK-77(? I’ve repressed the name maybe) came out his words came back to me as I looked for the first time at that huge beast (made lovely pictures mind you). On the back were four 1″ square buttons. One was the Return Video switch for the viewfinder, and right next to that button, which we used all the time, was a button that rolled the filter wheel to the “Capped” position. We were astounded, and I must admit that once, during an Islanders hockey game, I hit the wrong button and capped the camera…. on the air!
And now back to your originally scheduled thread.

July 13, 2008 at 2:37 am in reply to: Copy and Pasting clips on the timeline (seems so simple doesn’t it?)[Arnie Schlissel] “It will only copy/paste the tracks that have the auto select turned on. Simply turn them off for the tracks you don’t want.”
Well, that makes perfect sense! (slapping forehead…. Doh!)
Thanks Arnie!
