    Jiri,

Assuming both types of HD DVDs work as touted, the companies that give the players away at a very low price will probably win the battle. In the long haul, it not the players that generate the most capital, its the software. I’m betting on Sony, but I wouldn’t bet my future on it…

    Walter,

Jeffery was the guy there at the LAFCPUG who did the demo… I think he’s trying generate some sales here. To be perfectly honest, the demo seemd to indicate a product with potential that is in need of further development.

    Marcel,

That’s easy, just output a QT at standard DV settings, 720×480, lower field dominance, 4:3 aspect ratio, using the Apple DV/DVCPro NTSC codec or animation codec if that is not available on your system.

    Good luck,

Hi Jiri, the answer is no… Everyone will have to get new DVD players. It will be well worth it…

On another note, HD DVD will be able to play legacy DVDs, but it appears that Blu Ray will not…

    Brad,

A clean install is the only good way to fly. And, with hard drives so cheap these days, just get yourself a brand new hard drive and pull the old one just in case you mess up, which you probably won’t do anyway. If things get funky just throw in the old one and work away until you can get professional help. BTW, check prices on http://www.newegg.com and you’ll be blown away…

    Marcel,

That all depends on the particular FCP system and what the rest of the material they will be cutting on the timeline with the material that you provide. Are they working with 720×480 DV, or 720×486 BetaSp or DigiBeta???

    David,

Every professional editor does the things you’re doing, but we’ve all taken the time to learn editing technique and to learn the tools we use. As Elizabeth has pointed out, there are many more proficient ways to achieve the things you’ve described, but no one on an Internet forum could possibly tell you how to do all this. There is an entire series of tutorials that come with FCP that will teach you both technique and the software, I suggest you either take the time use them and to learn how do edit, or better yet, hire a professional.

[Lee Burrows] “setting of 9.0 mb/s.”

That bitrate is way too high for a DVD. 7.0 Mbps is the highest bitrate you should ever use.
