I would export from FCP as a self contained Quicktime, then use Compressor to do whatever you want using that file.

I use Snagit. Its worth trying and has a fully working free demo.

fcprescue automates the task and is well worth the cost, which BTW is zero dollars. It would be worth buying if it weren’t free.

Debe is right. Sending even 1gb files across the web is very tedious, torturously slow, and usually drops out and has to be restarted several times. http://www.yousendit.com, limited to 1gb files (which someone mentioned earlier on this forum), is frought with problems and necessary restarts.

Wow Micheal, that was fast. I would have thought you’d be memorizing your lines now for tonight’s performance. Of course, having been to a few of those performances, I guess I should know by now that everything is completely improvised.

For the record, I’ve heard the same thing. However, there was a fellow who gave a presentation at the LAFCPUG meeting a few months ago, who had a program that showed how much video information was actually lost when converting to AIC vs. DVCProHD. According to what he showed us, AIC retains considerably more video information than DVCProHD with similar or smaller files sizes. Perhaps Michael Horton can tell us who that fellow is so that we can all look into this further.

At the risk of making this even more complicated, in addition to what everyone else said, with a 5-minute peice you also need to decide if you will stream the video or simply make it available for download. Streaming starts very quickly and protects your video, downloading can take quite a while and it means giving your video away to all. All of the various video formats have different streaming techniques and considerations.
