apparently there is a black magic box that will somehow boos the gamma or something to make the apple display more video-like and reliable. It converts the dvi to sdi or something.

We just got the new Panasonic 17″ Broadcast monitor and it’s cool. SD looks a little dodgy being uprezzed, but the Color is good and it’s nice to have the broadcast monitor controls. It’s 720p native I believe, which is probably be the bulk of our projects.

We just got one yesterday. I love it. Color looks very solid on it. I compared it to a broadcast CRT and feel comfortable doing color work. SD picture quality leaves a something to be desired as I guess it’s getting uprezzed (it’s not a CRT.) But I’m comfortable with the tradeoff as the motion is reliable and the price is right for all the options right out of the box. We got the hard case too so it will serve as field monitor aswell.

I’m kinda dissapointed in my Dual 2.0 G5s. One has 8gigs of ram and I swear I see very little difference over my powerbook. To me the point of having a tower is that it is big and BAD. We’ll probably be swapping out for the Quad with a quadro for my CG stuff.

I spoke to someone at AJA the other day and they said the Kona 2e wasn’t too far off. This way I can swap it into the Intel Mac. Makes sense to me.

I really appreciate your time checking this out. This piece is serving as an intro to a fairly cut and dried documentary, so I did want something a little flashy and arty, but I’m definitely rethinking it. I know we do lean on dissolves heavily. I want to pull the viewer in with lots of questions which the film will address.

Ah…Drag.

It doesn’t seem to make sense to put more drives in than the machine can hold. Seems like a SATA PCI adapter would be the route in that case.

Why not capture video to the System drive? I can understand the inherent Raid 0 issues, but what other trouble am I asking for? Hope I’m not beingtoo much of a joker here. I wuld have never even considered anything other that an external drive in the past, but The big RAID prices have got me looking for interim solutions.

Tech support straightened it out. If anybody’s curious, the audio echo required a firmware update and the playback delay came from a delay setting in the system prefs.

You should check out Panasonic’s forth coming HVX200. It sounds sweet. I belive it will have component out. It will shoot on P2, but DVCPRO HD. Two 8g P2 cards will get you forty minutes of 720p.

Sounds like the ideal mate for the varicam. That’s the way we’re going.

so i’m wondering, comparing these two options (One is promax the other lacie)if there is a logical choice. It looks like the promax actually is hitting 450 MB/s while the Lacie is at 187 MB/s. Does this mean big performance difference. I like the tight looking lacy case and I figure the two promax cases would be tons louder.

I dunno…does faster mean more streams?

so the 5 slot guy will work like a VTR? I want to master realtime. I don’t think it has video inputs. I know they have one that looks like a VTR (jog wheel etc.) But it costs like one too.
