Hello fellow grazers. I own a Varicam w/HD1200 deck and will be buying an HDV camera for second unit. I am retiring my Cinewave cards and going LH thanks to the advice i received here on the fertile pasture of COW land. Questions below:

    1. Can I take the component outs of a Sony Z1(HDV) and the smaller HVR-A1U(HDV) camera and run into the component HD inputs of the Kona LH and compress to the DVCProHD format?

    2. From my Cow grazing I get the sense I have to digitize to DVCProHD1080i? –OR– since I am coming in component I can digitize to the 720p DVCProHD format as well?

3.Is machine control (camera vtr control) through the DV cable – even though I am grabbing HD video from the component outs?

    4. Lastly, has anybody had any experience with the HDV deck offerings? The HDV cameras have to be the slowest VTR response I have ever experienced!

    Thanks in advance!

You should check out Panasonic’s forth coming HVX200. It sounds sweet. I belive it will have component out. It will shoot on P2, but DVCPRO HD. Two 8g P2 cards will get you forty minutes of 720p.

Sounds like the ideal mate for the varicam. That’s the way we’re going.
