We are in a very similar situation. We are planning on buying the Kona LH but largly for the improved performance. I can’t say though that I’m exactly sure what the specific benefits will be. I’m guessing More streams of DVCPROHD and more effects without rendering. We also want the IO capabilities. $2000
We are looking at a external SATA array from ProMax. 1.7 TB with four drives. Again, I can’t sayspecifically what advantage this will give us, but I figure it will be improved performance and more streams with 200MB per second throughput. $3000
These two devices should come in around $5000 total.
We are picking up the Panasonic BT-1700w monitor as well as it seems like a great budget monitor with tons of input and output options and the added bonus of doubling as a field monitor. $2700
I would love any input about this rig if anyone has any thoughts. But I think this is where we are going.

This is the zzounds link. https://www.zzounds.com/item–TASFW1082
teh 002 “rack” (not the control surface) is around $600 or $700 on a couple of “buy it now” auctions on Ebay. One even comes with a Bheringer condenser mic.
Still wondering. Anyone know if the 002 will controll Final Cut Pro?

Well,
I’m replying to my own post. Just for the record. I did a little research and if anyone is interested i think this might be a cool way to go:
Digi 002 rack. Gives you 8 inputs and pre-amps and runs pro-tools.
then you get the Tascam FW-1082 control surface. That will control Pro-tools in the Mackie HUI emuation mode. It will also control Final Cut Pro and Soundtrack and MIdi stuff in Motion.
Soo… You’d get the phenomenal focusrite pre-amps of Digidesign, Pro-tools functionality, plus Apple Studio functionality.
Best part is looks like you could bring the package in for around $1500.
That’s like $500 cheaper than the cheapest advertised 002.Of course if the 002 would work with apple studio that would be cool.
I can’t seem to find any evidence of this. Knowing how jealous Avid/Digidesign are of their precious little softwares I’m guessing that this would mean no.Anyone know for sure?

What is the benefit of the 930 over the 93? Seems like even with the analog and SDI option boards on the 93 We’d still be coming in under 10k.
Why spend the extra $?

I’m pretty commited to an ENG camera. We’ll probably pick up the HVX as a second camera down the line. But I want the big Fat pretty camera and the big fat interchangeable lens and the big fat pretty pictures.
Just ready for it.

Hey Jeremy,
Thanks so much. That’s pretty much what I needed. Appreciate the encouragement. I feel like I’ve got the knowledge and chops, but 30k on the camera kinda makes the heart pound.
thanks again,

I like the idea of P2 a lot. I’m just wondering if I’m going to lose clients or potential shooting gigs without tape. I was hoping to make some extra cash hiring out as a shooter. will it be a problem that I can’t deliver a tape at day’s end?
I do want to pair the camera up with the HVX 200 so the P2 thing would be super logical. For my own production stuff I can’t wait to get away from tape. I’d be happy to back up on these new high volume DVD’s if they ever get here.
Oh, One last question. I’ve heard a great deal about how the SDX/SPX upconverts to HD nicely. Will the footage be accepted under modern production guidelines?
Thanks again for the help.
