I’ve had the Bella EZkeyboard (with color keys) for a couple of years and it works great. No problems.

    If you have After Effects:

I used it for a show and it worked well.

If my long term memory is any good, I remember something from the TV 101 lectures in college about the three colors that make up the video signal Green, Blue and Red. And that out of the three, red has the least amount of information in the signal, so red is the worse reproducible (if that’s a word) color.

I think you’ll have trouble no matter what compression you use. If you have ever rented a movie that has red credits over black, they look nice and crisp in the theater, but when you watch it at home on DVD, you can barely even read it.

I’ve had problems opening FCP for at least 6 months, if not a year. And then sometimes it would quit on me. And my G5 would make me power down. When I upgraded to FCP6 I thought that would solve the problem, but it didn’t. And lately it started to get worse. I ran FCP Rescue, repaired permissions, and even started from scratch on a clean HD with the MAC OS and FCP6 installation. But still had problems, sometimes frequent, sometimes not so bad. Most of the time I left my computer on, because the problem usually happened on boot up or opening FCP.

The other day I was surfing the Cow and noticed someone’s post about problems with the EXT HD used for media. They said that was causing the problem.

I have a Medea Raid. I backed up everything, erased then, partitioned the Medea again. 2 days with not one problem (knock on wood). Hopefully this will solve my problems.

Maybe this is something you should check.

    Good luck.

November 15, 2007 at 3:20 pm in reply to: Making the FCP leap

Switched from Accom Stratoshphere to FCP in 2005. Was an easy transition. If I remember correctly I plunged in feet first and never looked back. My Strat had crapped out so it was baptism by fire. Had a project due and learned while editing. Any questions I had I searched the cow forum and 9 times out of 10 it was already answered. The Strat compressed the video a bit. I was editing in 8-bit uncompressed in FCP so there was no loss of quality (a step up, technically).

Never used the Affinity, but found I could do more with FCP than the Strat. Have never been sorry.

    Hope this helps.

    Good luck.

    Ray,

Great idea. I can’t believe I didn’t think of that. I’ve actually done that on several other videos and it never came to mind.

Thanks for the post. My children are all grown, but I have a next door neighbor that will fit the bill perfectly.

  • Thanks to all that responded. Sounds like I should go with the MAC version of AE. As far as Automatic Duck, I only need “Pro Import AE” correct? Then I render an 8bit Quicktime out of AE to go back to FCP. Is that the proper workflow?
