Hey Dan,

The text layer does not start at the beginning of the composition, I added that so the layer didn’t start showing at the very first frame.
I just removed it to test and the problem worsens, now the size increases to the second value the moment it hits the first marker.

Yes, that’s ultimately the behavior I need, but it happens at different times in each comp, I’m trying to avoid having to dive in each of them and instead have a slider controlling the value for both.

I guess a hold keyframe is as good as it will get.

It does, only not with opacity, even at 0% it still reads the characters as fully being there. I changed my animator to scale instead of opacity and it works as expected.

There are a ton of limitations with this expression, with all the fiddling that has to be done is not that useful.

Sorry to hijack your thread, but this is somewhat related.

sourceRectAtTime works as expected when typing up the text and also if I vary the length of each line on a multi-line text layer, but if I animate the writing of the text using a text animator (typewriter, for example) it only shows the end size, the affected object does not vary its size as the text layer is growing in size.

Your help is greatly (and urgently) appreciated.

Expressions are calculated in each frame so they tend to bog down projects. If you must keep it on when rendering try disabling the layer cache and purge every 0 frames in the secret preference menu.

Thanks Jim, I wasn’t aware of that shortcut. It has to be Ctrl in Mac, since Cmd+Tab brings up the application switcher.
I wish it could be a single key and not a combination of two, though. I know, first world problems, but still.
