Sort of. It works.
But the same can be said about previous versions. The group of FCP L4s over at apple.com knows there are major houses that rely upon Qmaster for high end, mission critical work everyday. But we never see these people online nor do we know how much of their success is directly related to their IT support geeks.
Myself, I’ve never been able to get Qmaster to work, so you’re w-a-y ahead of me.

Yar, most of these require Trapcode’s FORM plugin. Not cheap but it’s used in tons of free online tutorials.

Actually, I think you can use Google to search for the term. We’ve seen tutorials on the topic so they’re o the Web someplace. You might also look for DNA helix simulation in After Effects.

There are two approaches. One uses an expression and the other uses CC Cylinder or CC Sphere. The problem is that you can’t “unwind” the spiral. It’s possible to do in Boris Effects’ 3D filters, their Cylinder filter can be keyframed to unroll.

The expressions avenue? I’m clueless.

Most of us transcode codecs like MPEG4 to an editable video format before coming into AE. Just makes life easier.

from the AE Help System, supported video formats:

MPEG-1, MPEG-2, and MPEG-4 formats: MPEG, MPE, MPG, M2V, MPA, MP2, M2A, MPV, M2P, M2T, M2TS (AVCHD), AC3, MP4, M4V, M4A
Note: Some MPEG data formats are stored in container formats with filename extensions that are not recognized by After Effects; examples include .vob and .mod. In some cases, you can import these files into After Effects after changing the filename extension to one of the recognized filename extensions. Because of variations in implementation in these container formats, compatibility is not guaranteed.

Not really. You can wrap the spine layer around a CC Cylinder but then it’s no longer a 3d shape, you’re just going to see a 2d movie of a cylinder.

Displacement and compound effects rely on the quality of the offset map which is a grayscale image or it’s take from the luma value of one channel of a map layer. what does your map layer look like?

127 is half of 255, the number of shades of gray AE can use in compound effects.

This can be approached many different ways upstream of AE but your playback system is relevant to the approach you would take.

I’ve been following your same thread over on apple.com and it would be helpful to post a link to your movie for Jerry to see there, too.

My approach would be to scale up everything in one simple operation and then go back to replace only the items that just don’t look right. Your footage goes by so fast that most of your audience (maybe not your client) will never notice the difference. It appears that much of the content is not full 1080 anyway.

However, someone has changed your delivery specifications without considering the impact on the work. Aside form the fact that’s not fair, it has a severe economic and stylistic cost. If you created to the spot to spec, you can hand it off to your client and say, “Now, pay me.” If the spec was changed after it was finished, you can hand it to your client and say, “New size? Not a problem, we start again and you must pay me again.”
