Twist like a corkscrew…
Hello Everyone,
I’ve got a filmstrip that I need to twist up like a corkscrew and then have it ‘unravel’. I’ve tried using the ‘twister’ effect, but it only really allows for one twist, not multiple ‘corkscrew’ twists.
If anyone has any ideas, I’d really appreciate it.

Actually, I think you can use Google to search for the term. We’ve seen tutorials on the topic so they’re o the Web someplace. You might also look for DNA helix simulation in After Effects.
There are two approaches. One uses an expression and the other uses CC Cylinder or CC Sphere. The problem is that you can’t “unwind” the spiral. It’s possible to do in Boris Effects’ 3D filters, their Cylinder filter can be keyframed to unroll.
The expressions avenue? I’m clueless.

Thanks for the reply. I’ve tried the Google route, but I couldn’t quite find what I was looking for. There was an expression on Creative Cow, but I couldn’t get it to work properly.

Yar, most of these require Trapcode’s FORM plugin. Not cheap but it’s used in tons of free online tutorials.
