You only need Automatic Duck if you need the integration. Most round trips and effects movies do not require that kind of sophistication but, yeah, it will save you lots of headaches if you really need it.

FCP to AE back to FCP is easy. If you know AE, all you need to do is figure out what codec preserves the integrity of your effects movies best. Match the frame rate, field position, color space; all fundamental AE settings.

Upgrading to FCS 5.1 won’t make any difference, nothing changed in the way FCP handle the v/o tool.
I use the Griffen iMic USB device and a headset mic. Works great for what I need to do. I could use a far better microphone but I bring our best audio in via tape.
Most of the successful voice over posts we’ve seen over the years use USB audio devices.

Use the nest’s icon that appears in the Browser. If you use copies of a nest from a timeline, you get an independent copy of the nest, not a dependent version.

It’s quite confusing but, now that you have had some trouble with it, you might benefit from re-reading that section of the manual about nesting and how the different versions of a nest are treated in the Canvas and Browser.

You will need to to distinguish for us the difference between ghosting and smearing. Your “6p” was shot at what shutter speed?

It works fine and you can find dozens of similar threads here, we entertain the question at least weekly, sometimes daily. There are competing products from popwire and Sorenson. Flip4Mac is bizarrely slow;
glacial.

For us, the most efficient way to create our wmvs is to use a cheap PC. The PC actually cost less than the pro version of Flip.

Nope, this is currently only available in winderz-based encoding applications like Microsoft’s free products. According to the young lady who manages our WMP Streaming Server, “Its proprietary technology for Microsoft. It will never show up on Macintosh.”

We have found multibit to be a complete waste of time and effort but your needs may be different. According to the logs, none of our site’s visitors seem to benefit. That is, low-speed visitors don’t bother to click on the videos.

Take it out to Soundtrack Pro and study the manual carefully, you’re looking for the noise reduction and analyze sections. I do not have my STP online help on this computer so I cannot point you directly to the relevant sections, sorry.

STP has a cool feature where you can teach it what noises to process out. There is a tutorial (might come with the app, can’t remember) where an interview is shot on the deck of a boat. The process features are used to teach STP how to handle the wind and walkie-talkie squelch. It’s very simple and cool.

Hope you get better advice before you have to read the whole manual.
