Can anyone offer any advice on how to use FCP with after effects ?

I am pretty well versed in AE but now need to Use FCP.. I am mostly concerned about integration between the two programs and any tech stuff i might need to know..

    Thanks

You want the automatic duck Pro Import plug-in for After Effects. This allows you to export your FCP timeline as an XML and then open that timeline in After Effects.

You only need Automatic Duck if you need the integration. Most round trips and effects movies do not require that kind of sophistication but, yeah, it will save you lots of headaches if you really need it.

FCP to AE back to FCP is easy. If you know AE, all you need to do is figure out what codec preserves the integrity of your effects movies best. Match the frame rate, field position, color space; all fundamental AE settings.

    Boogiesan,
Before i do something so foolish as read the freakin manual……
To go from AE to FCP and back i must render the movies unless i get this duck plugin ?
I understand that motion and shake are integrated without have to export.. is this so ?
I guess that a plugin is going to be more time effective than new software though..

    thanks

if you have AE on the same box as FCP, you only need to export a Reference QT (not self contained). its really fast

but even a atraight qt export, that matches the setting of your timeline (called export quicktime in your fcp file menu) is pretty fast, expecially for a shot at a time

    hope this helps
