I am in awe. Very cool 3D work. I can’t do that.

No, this isn’t the right place.

    > My question is how and where do I get information about how to prepare the AE files for TV production, how do most people get jobs for commercials, etc. < The technical specs for rendering and output modules are easily found in the manual and online files. > I am basically just wanting to try out some commercials for small local companies at the moment. Nothing special, just something to get introduced to the industry. I have someone who said I can use them as a test. If it turns out pretty good they will use it, if not… hey I got some experience. < Lesson #1: You never do anything for free. Free has no value. > How do others approach potential customers? Do you even approach them at all? Do they come to you or vice-versa. Do you create the concept for the commercial or do they give you ideas of what they want, or a little of both? What are some general steps in the production process? < That's marketing. You go to school to learn about how to do marketing. You make phone calls, you embarrass yourself, you debase yourself, you crash parties, you get cool business cards, you make promises you cannot keep, you lie to your friends and family and clients and you steal all of the best ideas. That's the advertising biz. Production? That's different. Approach some production companies and ask for a job. See lesson #1 above. Free has no value. bogiesan This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

    > I tried shutting off the plugins thinking it was one that went rogue but nope, crashed just the same. I reinstalled this program about 4 times while yelling obscenities and still the same thing. I have noticed that sometimes when a project renders I will have “video artifacts” in the video, therefore need to be re-rendered.,

Artifacts in rendered movies usually points to three things: Bad media or bad drives or bad drive connections.

These can cause crashes, too. AE seems to have a low tolerance for such glitches in data integrity. When faced with these challenges, I try to chunk the project into smaller rendering projects like pre-rendering all of the precomps and nests and replacing them with the movies.

    Or;;;
Get the project open and immediately use the Increment and Save function. Now delete every unnecessary piece of media and comp and save after every deletion.

Coo idea, cool solution doing the precomp.
But the layered rendering would make interacting with the scene a nightmare, wouldn’t it? If I was doing it, I’d nail down the moves and prerender the movie from the on-stage camera.

I’ll have to try this someday!

I start looking at Shatter first for all degenerative projects. The physics in Shatter will do just about anything, it’s a true 3D particle system and you can apply it twice to the same layer to get more realistic bubbles. Globular is NOT one of Shatter’s preset shapes so you might need to think differently. .

  • It can be done. You have two choices:
    1. Slog through it, frame by frame, as Tom has described. (There are many ways of approaching this in AE; they all bite.)
    2. Hire someone to do it for you. (You will only resent the tedium.)

    Okay, three choices:
    3. Reshoot. (Probably easier and cheaper.)

Wait, four. You have a fourth choice:
    4. Live with it. Call it a deliberately planned stylistic approach instead of a flaw.

  • Failing that, and it sometimes doesn’t work, don’t use Compressor. Take a reference movie directly to DVDSP and let DVDSP handle the encode to MPEG2 for you.

But is it better or worse than 5.1.1?

    Editorial sidetrack, do not read:
I thoroughly detest and loathe the entire clip handling paradigm. I’ve had it explained to me by all you wonks and I still have no idea why any of it matters. Less cool systems, say, Media 100 v1 – v7, have or had no such nonsense.
