  • But there are still issues. Especially with third party filter systems like DigiEffects and with OpenGL and apparently the render engine is busted for Macs.

    I’d send you over to Adobe’s user forums but they’ve been “improved” to the point where you can’t logon.

    I suggest you talk to the PC guy and ask him to export clips in a format you can use rather than attempt to convert them at your end.

    We see this issue about weekly so there are hundreds of threads you can research. It’s a very complicated situation because Microsoft, Apple and Adobe all think they have the last and best solutions for digital media. And there are millions of hopelessly out of date digital media users on PCs..

    q[jason] ” am having trouble changing the font in Final Cut Pro. When I go to the text screen the font is stuck on Lucida Grande.We don’t have Apple support since we are a college unless we buy it. :(But the guy did have me make a new user and it worked fine under the new user….but no luck with mine.
    “

    You’ve got to be MUCH more explicit; there are twenty different places to modify or select TEXT including the default size for the application interface. If creating a new user account enables the system fonts, you have some simple OS issues to fix.

    Cross posting just wastes everyone’s time. Since you added some information to your thread over on apple.com, you’re starting to get some decent suggestions.

    > I have already keyed out the footage and am wondering how to deliver this to the web developer so that they can put it on the site without the background showing, any help would be great thanks in advance. < Export the clip using QT Conversion, not the sequence, using Animation codec set to millions of colors+, the PLUS SIGN is the alpha. The main problem is that FCP will export the sequence, or the clip, using the setting sor the sequence or the native clip, which is probably DV. It is NOT Animation unless you set it up that way, which is doubtful. Just a warning, be prepared to do this several times. You must remain calm and patient. Your Web/Flash guy probably thinks he knows more than you do but you don't know anything about Flash and he's probably on a PC anyway which hopeless complicates your ability to get along with each other if he's Macintolerant, too. bogiesan

    The difficulty lies in placing your globe inside the cylinder. Make two copies, one that renders the Inside, one set to Outside. Place your globe object (which is really flat) between the two layers. You may need to create a mask to hide something, you’ll figure it out quickly.

    This is much cooler and more complicated to do as a set of 3D layers. One layer for each type character, wrapped into a cylinder. You can use the Ring of Cows tutorial to set them up and then tip them around to face a null object in the center of the ring.

  • There is only one alpha setting, “millions of colors +” that delivers the alpha. The others don’t contain alpha regardless of the capability of the codec unless you hit the options or advanced button and switch from million to millions+

    PNG and TIF will support alpha, I don’t think JPG does but you can export alpha only and use the second as a track matte.

    I’ve nver used Flash for anything except to complain about it.

    October 2, 2007 at 1:53 pm in reply to: arranging vast numbers of solids easily

    It’s worth repeating for those of us who appreciate what you have done and have absolutely no clue what any of this means:

    [moldyboot] “x = linear(index, 0, thisComp.numLayers, 0, thisComp.width);
    multiplier = thisComp.layer(“Null 1”).effect(“Slider Control”)(“Slider”);
    z = Math.abs(Math.sin(index * Math.PI / thisComp.numLayers)) * multiplier;
    [x,value[1],z]

    duplicate your solid 100-150 times… as you duplicate your layers the should distribute across the screen and recede in z space as they approach the center of the screen following a curve (the positive value a cosine curve). the z offset can be controlled for all layers by the null slider value.

    create a new comp, add a null (name ‘null 2’) and add a slider control to it. bring in the comp created above, enable collapse transormations (next to the shy layer control), enable expressions for position and paste this:

    spacingAdjust = thisComp.layer(“Null 2”).effect(“Slider Control”)(“Slider”);
    y = linear(index, 0, thisComp.numLayers, 0 – spacingAdjust – (height / 2), thisComp.height + spacingAdjust- (height / 2));
    value + [0, y]
    “

    This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

    Highest chroma resolution you can afford: DigiBeta, most of the HD formats (not HDV). Understand that most of these require special capture hardware to preserve the signal quality.

    Camtasia was my only suggestion. Re-rendering shoudl only be necessary once. Instead of importing the footage directly, use Compressor or QT to export or Save As
