Lens Flare filter? You must be using Motion 2. It disappeared in Motion 3. It’s now a generator and it blows.
However, it’s still there. You just can’t see it, nor can you search for it. You have to open the Blue Tech Lower Third template. Look around at the groups. There’s the Lens Flare filter. Drag it to your FAVORITES folder and it should always be there until you purge your prefs.

In Aftrer Effects, we have the lovely Knoll Unmult function that builds a beautiful alpha out of the premultiplied information. There is not similar function in Motion. No one has built one, even.

Search here for everything that’s wrong with using HDV and you’ll find some helpful suggestioins. Mostly, convert the HDV to something useful on import or afterwards.

    Red? No. Why?

October 9, 2007 at 2:26 pm in reply to: external raid options with redundancy

[paulos] “edundancy is a big requirement, raid 5 being ideal but raid 1 might be our only option in our budget.
storage for the project is estimated to be around 1TB so looking at 2TB if we go raid 1.

The mantra should be dont skimp on good storage but our budget has to include a new mac + software etc…
    “

“Redundancy” is not a desired function while working unless you have the high speed drives and cards, a ton of cash, competent technical support and a client who demands it (and will fund it). You have none of those as inferred from your post.

What you NEED is a stupid-proof back up procedure and the discipline to test it and then use it once or twice a day, depending on your tolerance for risk and possible loss.

You need to make dubs of your camera originals and store them securely offsite. You need to rotate your backup volumes from one offsite storage facility to another in a predetermined cycle. You need to have a hot site lined up where you can upload a clone of your system get back to work if your editing facility is destroyed or otherwise unavailable.

I do not know what Multibridge Extreme is but since it’s the function/tool that is broken, time to talk to whoever makes it. Probably a busted driver or your plugin for it must be moved from the FCP5 application package to the FCP6 package.

Why didn’t you use Log and Capture?

QT will capture noncompliant video sources to a variety of different codecs. You probay have captured DV to DV Stream instead of regular ol’ DV. What is the extension on the file?

Either recapture in FCP or Export out of QT Pro to conventional DV.

These things do need to be done to the original clip but there are workarounds.
One is to copy and paste pattributes to all associated clips. Not too bad, actually.
One is to create a bin of the sequence’s clips, sort by angle, select all, paste attributes.

STRONGLY URGE YOU TO PRACTICE on a smaller version of your main sequence. These workarounds can get sticky if you miss a keystroke. Might want to SAVE AS

The drive was probably FAT32 or simple format out of the box and has not been formatted properly for the Macintosh. See the MacOS help system. Disk Utility, Erase, MacOS.

I hope you get better and more useful advice soon. Give the forum a day or two. If you post in other AE forums, think about coming back to them all and telling us what worked for you.

Don’t mean to sound mean but this should have been researched and could have been easily tested in the field. How many times you get to go to Paris to shoot?

You will need to determine what is causing the flicker. The mains in Europe are 50 Hertz. If you were shooting at a 60 Hertz variation there will be a noticeable pattern when you step through by fields in an appropriate viewer. You might be able to simply use a field blend function or some time effects. You will need to move one field of illumination to one field of dark. This is easily done if there is little or no motion in the shot. Severe motion will make the effect useless.

You may need to accept and then apply a dramatic stylistic look and feel to all of your night footage.

There is a Stabilize Color effect in AE that can help but it’s not meant for this kind of work.

Again, hope you get more helpful advice, stuff I haven’t had to try yet.

    > New to AE, so this may be a simple solution. < We were all new at one time but this is not simple at all. > randomized opacity, size, rotation, etc, with a custom shape. < Shatter will probably do it for you but build ing your custom shatter map requires patience and research and leaning how to use Colorama on the map image upstream of the shatter comp. Random opacity is more complicated. Randomized size is complicated by the fact that the pieces must start at some size determined by the shatter map. Any piece that isn't part of the shatter map stays put unless, of course, you apply a second copy of Shatter. Shatter is one of my favorite go-to filters. If you just keep opening the twirlies, you'll see that it's huge. Running it to its full capacity, you must understand compound layers and that you can apply four different grayscale images or movies to a single object by using separate channels. bogiesan
