    Hey CC –
New to AE, so this may be a simple solution. I’m trying to find something in AE that will replicate the kind of effect a scatter brush in Photoshop is giving me – randomized opacity, size, rotation, etc, with a custom shape.

I’ve checked out the Shatter plugin and it seems to kind of be what I want, but I don’t think it’s exactly it.

Ideally, I want to explode a solid fill into bunches of pieces (in this case a custom leafy shape) that fly toward the camera in 3D space, with randomized opacity, size, etc.

    Is this asking a lot?

Random opacity is more complicated. Randomized size is complicated by the fact that the pieces must start at some size determined by the shatter map. Any piece that isn't part of the shatter map stays put unless, of course, you apply a second copy of Shatter. Shatter is one of my favorite go-to filters. If you just keep opening the twirlies, you'll see that it's huge. Running it to its full capacity, you must understand compound layers and that you can apply four different grayscale images or movies to a single object by using separate channels. bogiesan
