Try this. This is just a way of illustrating enzo’s point.

Create two titles,

Cut the first one into the timeline.

With the second one, mark an in at the front of the clip in the viewer and an out at the ten second mark. Cut it in as the next event in the timeline.

When you try to put a dissolve between them you will find that there is not enough media to do the trnasition.

This is Final CUts very polite way of telling you you have asked it to do something it can not do. You need to trim the shot by half the dissolve amount. IE; 30 frame dissolve you need to trim you shot by 15 frames because half of teh dissolve happens on one shot and half on the other.

I have worked with 23.98 varicam timelines and downconverted them to 525 from 720P HD on the fly(even in a 23.98 Varicam timeline) So I can tell you that the Kona does this. It does not do this for 1080 10 bit uncompressed timelines@23.98. For this you would need an external pulldown converter to display on most HD LCD’s or plasma screens.

Working in 23.98 timelines does offer it’s challenges for sure and the simpler route is to stay with 59.94 frame rates, when possible.

This was fixxed in the 1.14 driver where the user has the option to make the output a fixxed level, not affected by the volume control.

Hey guys,

This is not meant to sound dumb or anything BUT, is there an event that it is choking on. I have noticed wierd stuff like this and then simply altering a dissolve rate or an early edit by one frame has mada difference. Whenever I have a wierd inexplicable thing like that I make a small change like adjust the opening dissolve from 30 to 25 frames rerender and things can clear up.

I know it sounds very strange, but I have had this happen more than once.

I would say that this might be because your drives are too full or your clips are too long. Or you may be making the classic mistake of having media on the same drive as the application.

Try this:

Never captue more than 10 minutes at time.
Never edit footage captured to the boot drive.
Never fill a drive to more than 80% capacity.

Most problems originate there.
