Upgraded (clean install) to FCP 5.0.1 & Quicktime 7.1 … 1080i 29.97 Uncompressed 10bit sequence footage plays perfect in timeline, chokes within 2 or 3 secs. when editing to tape, (HD CAM). Same footage put into a 8bit Uncompressed sequence lays back perfectly. HUGE drives are virtually empty. Other than the obvious data rate differences in the scenarios mentioned above, I’m out of ideas.
    Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

    Thanks.

there is no QT7.1 and 5.03 is the current version of FCP

for 10bit UC HDcam find am using 10.4.2 / QT7.03 / FCP 5.03 and it works just fine for me.

    Did you
mixed down the audio / render the file / not have your scopes open in FCP?

    Gary–
Thanks for the response … my bad the quicktime is 7.0.1. Hard to tell from the posts if 5.03 is okay to use. Obviously it is, from your response, but with 10.4.2 & QT 7.03 What about 10.3.9? No audio to mix down, everything was rendered & no open scopes. Source was actully rendered in After Effects with the 10bit Uncompressed codec imported into FCP. Same workflow as a previously working FCP 4.5, nothing has changed other than the switch to FCP 5 & QT. Trying to put off the jump to 10.4.2 for a liitle while … it may be sooner rather than later.

    Thanks again,

    Mike,
after I loaded tiger, I could not ever run 10.3.9 again (java alone made me upgrade my laptop).

So I am assuming that you have forced the render (work in safe mode), and with a fully populated Huge array over SCSI should not be an issue. My Location machine is virtually identical ( I have a 4ULS card)

did you try reinstalling the SCSI drivers from atto?

    Hey guys,

This is not meant to sound dumb or anything BUT, is there an event that it is choking on. I have noticed wierd stuff like this and then simply altering a dissolve rate or an early edit by one frame has mada difference. Whenever I have a wierd inexplicable thing like that I make a small change like adjust the opening dissolve from 30 to 25 frames rerender and things can clear up.

I know it sounds very strange, but I have had this happen more than once.

Thanks David & Gary for your time & responses. There are definetly some quirks that pop up now & then. I’ve been able to figure most of them out until now. The posts here on the cow are very valuable. However, this is an odd one. Most indications are pointing to the SCSI card and or the lack of having a Tiger in the tank.

    Thanks again,

    Mike
