A word of warning on K2 audio
I had some weird issues with audio levels from FCP suddenly changing on the K2 embedded output for no apparent reason. Finally I worked out what was going on –
I had the Kona 2 setup as the default audio audio output in the OSX Sound control panel, so I could listen to iTunes etc through the K2 outputs. However, it seems if you do this then the regular volume keys on the keyboard will (dangerously) adjust the output volume of the card when you use it in FCP (even on the digital outputs)….causing all sorts of head scratching and problems.

This was fixxed in the 1.14 driver where the user has the option to make the output a fixxed level, not affected by the volume control.

Thanks for the link Jeremy, it’s even more of a mess that I first thought! It shows that AJA are really on top of things though.
The addition in the 1.14 driver was an unity input gain checkbox, you can still adjust the output gain as described in the PDF (which is just plain scary IMHO).

Yeah, they fixed in the input, but not the output. I think it’s some sort of limitation with Core Audio and not really aja’s doing. It’s buried in the OS somewhere. I could be wrong about this, but it’s what I seem to recollect.

I am with you. Please do not let my mac Volume control actually affect the level of the output of the KONA 2. that’s nuts. The drivers for my aurora product have had this built in for a very, very, very, very long time.
Not sure why they can’t get on this one.

Hey folks….. there is an easy fix for all of this. Just purchase an inexpensive small audio board and use it for monitoring only. I have never had these kind of problems with the K2 with this option. The only audio problem I have ever had is the crackling audio that you get sometimes when you stop and start playing from the timeline or viewer windows in FCP.
