10.0.7 does fix the DVD issue. I can only speak for myself but I have had no problem with 10.07, no crashing.

I installed FCP X on a 2006 iMac and it works! (Not great, but it works) It comes up with a message and says the graphics card is not supported. I hit the button message disappears and Final Cut X launches and works. I agree with Bob, put in another hard drive and see what you think about Final Cut X before you spend any money. Play with it, if you like it then think about upgrading your tower or getting a new iMac.

I agree with Bill, the first time I saw FCP X I thought if nothing else what a great place to organize file in a database style. However if FCP X doesn’t work for you take a look at Filemaker 12. I use it to track all my jobs but I have never tried to use it as a video database.

I’ve edited XDCAM EX hundreds of time. I disagree with compressing to ProRes. It edits fine and it’s much smaller than Prores so it doesn’t chew up hard drive space as fast. I have edited from firewire drives without crashes but it was always attached to a MacPro, most of the time the media is a raid 0 HD that runs at about 200MB’s per second.

Same here, X has been very stable when 7 crashes all the time when I multi cam. I moved a Multicam from 7 to X and it was no problem in X.

I have the same problem. When I checked the mv2 file the bitrate was 9 Mbit/s I also tried a lower bitrate from compressor in FCPx and had the same results. Can’t get files small enough for a 4.7 DVD
