  • Dual layer problem since upgrade to 10.0.6

Posted by Hoss Wuerslin on November 13, 2012 at 8:00 pm

    Hey out there.

We film gov’t meetings that can go up to two hours long.
We have been doing this for years.
We have been doing this on FCPX since its launch.
We have been using DVD-R 4.7 discs for these meetings.
All has been right with the gods.

After upgrading FXPX to 10.0.6, on all three computers, FCPX now insists that it needs dual media on all three computers.

AND this message is even coming up on a meeting that goes 1hr and ten minutes.
In fact, ALL the other meetings are less then 2hrs.
It will burn a DVD on shows below an hour.
We have tried different DVDs from different makers.

    Why?
So far this has stumped the panel; maybe someone here has a thought. We have a ticket in with apple and are still waiting to see if they will even respond.

Any help would be a help.
    Thanks
    Hoss

I’m guessing FCPX upped the mpeg2 bit rate with the new export dialogue. Do you just use a preset, or did you amke your own export setting?

Sounds like the bitrate settings have changed with the new Share -> DVD menu option. =/

I have the same problem. When I checked the mv2 file the bitrate was 9 Mbit/s I also tried a lower bitrate from compressor in FCPx and had the same results. Can’t get files small enough for a 4.7 DVD

Thank you all for getting back; we were worried that was the answer.

So if using compresser is not a work around to lower the bit rate back to the good ol’ days, is the only solution to start shelling out more cash for the dual layer DVDs?

I’ve experienced the same problem with long-form recordings with 10.0.6. To bypass th glitch, I export (Share) a QT file from FCP X then create a DVD directly with Compressor. This seems to be a temporary solution until the issue is addressed in a subsequent update. The downside is that Compressor doesn’t take advantage of the GPU, so it takes longer to process files than FCP X.

    Thanks Mark.

Okay apple, how about fixing this problem that in my humble opinion, never needed to be a problem.
