March 2, 2007 at 2:41 am in reply to: Help getting EpisodePro MPEG2’s to look great!

Most of my source files would be uncompressed 8bit or 10bit quicktimes, usually from 8/10bit sequences.

    Does that help out?

    Thanks for the help!

You should consider compressing the audio as well, and uncompressed (even mono audio) 1:30 piece will be tough to fit under 2MB – I would go with mp3 compression on the audio, 112kbps mono would be just fine and should get you fairly close to the 2MB size (with reduced bitrate/frame rate mind you).

    Hope that helps!

You definitely need to find out what the final product/provider you will deliver to will require. Streaming or not? Which version of 3GP? File size limitations?

Many different phones view the same file many different ways – and remember most 3gp have a 15fps limit! You can increase bitrates above the 192kbps limit…but a lot of phones will choke up and you will loose sync with your audio. These are just SOME of the issues with cell phone content delivery!

I tried to do some keying in FCP before as well…not good. Ever since I touched Keylight in AE, I haven’t gone back. It’s very easy to learn/use, and somewhat comparable results to shake I think.

Thanks for the reply to my post waaaay down the list! I would really like to hear an update as well…I’m sort of giddy about the possibilities SheerVideo can provide! Let me know if you hear anything!

    Hey Michael,

If you didn’t get it figured out, let me know. I work at the post facility for DSC, and should be able to locate you a quicktime file or two.

    I’m a car mechanic…and I have a mini DV camera and FCP, so I’m a professional, right?

No, no…just kidding. I work at a post house in DC, I was working nights and I was getting a decent amount of daytime work, so I purchased the IO to start on some uncompressed projects at home. As luck would have it, I was pushed to a daytime spot and now I’ve got my whole setup at home just hanging out! Dual G5, FCP, IO, external SATA array, mixer, event studio monitors, everthing! I literally think just as I plugged in my RAID array I got the phone call: “How would you like to come to a daytime slot?”

Good times indeed, but now I have the equipement paid for…so it could be worse, right? I’ve had quite a few friends get gigs that were going to pay for everything, but the client backs out half way through and they’re stuck with unpaid equipement!

  • Ahh..see, I thought that the aja boxes used their own varation of the quicktime codec! I can do uncompressed…but I’d like to jam as many qt’s on a DVD as I can! I just remember when I brought in Animation QT’s I had to render them no matter what my timeline was set at.

Argh! If it were any clearer…I might be right in front of my face. Works great, and I found out exactly what I wanted to know…if I really COULD edit 40 streams of NTSC DV footage! Maybe when I get my other pair of drives ready to rock…that number will get a little higher…

    Score!

Awesome. That’s kind of what I was thinking too…I just didn’t want to waste my time with something that wasn’t going to do it! I’m still trying to train my brain to wrap around how to really use plug-ins (and AE) to it’s full potential!
