  • Things to do with my IO when I’m not using it?

Posted by Dave Gorrie on August 23, 2006 at 3:33 pm

Ok, Ok…so this isn’t a serious post…but since I got all ramped up when I bought my IO, I haven’t really used it! Maybe it’s because I haven’t bought a deck yet, or my full time gig is taking up ALL of my time…regardless, I’m looking to put it to use some other way until I get a job that will use it.

So here were my initial thoughts:
    1) plant, printer, or router stand (or basically anything with “stand” after it!)
    2) a night light

Ok…so I’ve already run out of ideas…anyone else have any suggestions?

    Makes a great night light.

    I’m sorry Diggy, but I can’t resist:

By a deck and hook it up…
Hook it up to an NTSC monitor…

I am almost afraid to ask, but if you bought an AJA I/O – what is your full time gig ?
I hope that you are in the video business, and this is not a hobby for you .

    I’m a car mechanic…and I have a mini DV camera and FCP, so I’m a professional, right?

No, no…just kidding. I work at a post house in DC, I was working nights and I was getting a decent amount of daytime work, so I purchased the IO to start on some uncompressed projects at home. As luck would have it, I was pushed to a daytime spot and now I’ve got my whole setup at home just hanging out! Dual G5, FCP, IO, external SATA array, mixer, event studio monitors, everthing! I literally think just as I plugged in my RAID array I got the phone call: “How would you like to come to a daytime slot?”

Good times indeed, but now I have the equipement paid for…so it could be worse, right? I’ve had quite a few friends get gigs that were going to pay for everything, but the client backs out half way through and they’re stuck with unpaid equipement!

You could use it as a bnc/XLR/optical cable tester.

Could make a great home theater router. A very expensive one, no doubt.

Bob, why can’t a hobbyist make use of an AJA IO?

    Thanks,

    Robert
