Hi Dan,
I’m not an expert on what the signal of video game consoles is on their component outputs. My hunch is it is either standard or HD component depending on the console and should work fine. You might try posting over in the Blackmagic forum on the COW and see if someone over there is familiar with this use of the HD Extreme card.Good luck!

Dan,
Very happy with my Blackmagic HD Extreme card. I also capture component, in my case Betacam SP. I found an inexpensive solution to capture DV and HDV footage in SD quality to the BMD card with the Convergent MI. Big difference in picture quality. And when I do migrate to HD in the future, the card has the capability.Dan Sparks

I had a similar problem and traced it down to the Sound Preferences pane in the System Preferences being reset by the 6.2 installer. I had to set in back to Decklink Audio in.

That’s the combo I have and it’s been solid. Saved a bit of money compared to the Kona, you just need to be aware of the differences and how that applies to your work. BMD uses realtime software to do HD to SD down-conversion, Kona is hardware based. I’m told the software conversion is just OK. But that’s a feature I don’t need so it’s a non-issue for me. I capture component from Beta SP, and SDI from HDV(captured in SD). Currently my work is all SD, but when I need HD in the future, the capability will be there for me.

Are you still running 6.1 with fcp studio 2? I have a monitoring issue when captuing with 6.2 driver. My NTSC monitor doesn’t display the video being captured, did before the upgrade. I just get a blank screen or digital noise.

Thanks for confirming what I thought might be the case. I’d rather keep it as a backup system than make a few hundred bucks. Besides, it holds too many memories of past projects. It would be like kicking an old friend to the curb.

Thanks for clearing that up for me, Luke. If the output of the HVR M25U is 8-bit, I guess I would have thought capturing at 10- bit would have looked the same and not less detailed than capturing at 8-bit. I’ll capture at 8-bit from now on.The Intensity sounds interesting, but I am also using a Betacam SP deck in my system and the HD Extreme card handles that quite well. I don’t know if there would be any benefit going to the Intensity compared to the HD Extreme and Convergent combo I’m using now. Can you think of a reason to change to the Intensity over the Convergent for when I capture from the HVR-M25U? Besides a sale for Blackmagic 😉

Is this true for the HD Extreme card as well? I currently have 2GB RAM in my Mac Pro, but was considering going to 4GB.
