DeckLink HD Extreme
Posted by Dan Sheridan on June 7, 2007 at 8:50 amHi,
Anyone use the DeckLink HD Extreme card in a mac pro? Any good? Drawbacks? Looking to capture video from a component source – will this be adequate for my needs?
Cheers,
D.

Most of the forum leaders (like me) are running on Kona’s in this forum.

June 7, 2007 at 1:15 pmIt will be more than adequate. Good cards, great codec…component in. Inexpensive. Lots of people swear by them.
I prefer AJA (tighter integration with Apple), but Decklink works just fine.

June 7, 2007 at 2:35 pmThat’s the combo I have and it’s been solid. Saved a bit of money compared to the Kona, you just need to be aware of the differences and how that applies to your work. BMD uses realtime software to do HD to SD down-conversion, Kona is hardware based. I’m told the software conversion is just OK. But that’s a feature I don’t need so it’s a non-issue for me. I capture component from Beta SP, and SDI from HDV(captured in SD). Currently my work is all SD, but when I need HD in the future, the capability will be there for me.
