    Hi guys,

with any bmd easy setting in fcp the hole system sooner or later crashes completely. This does not happen in dv easy setting for instance. What I tried so far: tried different ram configurations (originally we had 6 gb installed, because we have a lot of rendering to do with this machine; I tried 2, 3 and 4gb, and yes, placed in pairs); changed the pci e slots and the exapnsion slot configurations. The result is always the same. When I place the cursor at the beginning of the timeline (either with the key or the mouse) the system freezes, not always, but often. It happens also (but not so often) when when I place the cursor anywhere in the timeline.

Should I try older drivers (5.7)? If yes, where do I find them?
Or do I simply have to wait for the next driver update? It would be good to know that, at least.

    Thanks for any suggestions!

    Patrick

    Hey Patrick,

Trying to troubleshoot an incident at a facility that I’m working at where too. We’re using the Decklink, and I the system is crashing when we scrub the timeline. Took the RAID array offline to issolate the problem, and it was still crashing.

I’m curious, had you recently updated the OS to 10.4.9? I think we did, and I just want to see if I can rule that out.

    Thanks,
    Jose

    Hi Patrick,

There’s a bug right now and where more than 2GB of RAM will crash your Mac Pro when using the DeckLink Extreme PCIe or SP PCIe. We’re working on it right now. As a temporary workaround, you’ll need to limit the amount of RAM in your Mac Pro to 2 GB.

Is this true for the HD Extreme card as well? I currently have 2GB RAM in my Mac Pro, but was considering going to 4GB.

    Hi Dan,

The HD Extreme is fine. This issue only affects the DeckLink SP PCIe and the DeckLink Extreme PCIe.

Are there any known issues with Decklink HD Studio? I’m consistently experiencing crashes when switching between DV NTSC and Blackmagic 8-bit uncompressed in the capture input setting. Mac Pro, 5 GB of RAM.

    Hi,

If you’re experiencing crashes, please send us the copy of the crash log and your system profile. The email address is support[at]blackmagic-design.com

If it’s a kernel panic, send use the kernel panic log which is called “panic.log” and is located in “/Library/Log”.

Do you think the bug will ever get fixed, or should I convince my boss to pony up for an Extreme HD? Since I “moved up” to a MacPro in November I’ve been patiently waiting for the forthcoming software update that’ll fix this. The only solution I’ve found is to physically remove 2GB of RAM (originally 4GB). I tried reducing the FCP Memory Usage in System Settings but still get crashes. Is there a way to reduce the Decklink’s Memory usage perhaps?

    Hi Mike,

Yes, this bug will get fixed. We’re working on it right now and it’s in the priority list. I’ve also embargoed the engineer’s Tim Tam supplies until this gets addressed.

Thanks Kristian. It’s reassuring that you know what makes an engineer tick. (Tim Tams)
