Yes. We have the Sony HVR-M25U deck and the Convergent MI box. We play out through the HDMI connector to the Convergent MI box to the SDI in on the Blackmagic card.

Not sure how to solve your timecode dubbing issue, but I can tell you that the difference the Convergent Design box makes is pretty amazing. I captured the same well-lit and shot scene as firewire, component (throug a Blackmagic HD Extreme card), and SDI through the Convergent MI box. Did a 3-way split screen in an 8 bit sequence and was very impressed with the SDI quality. I didn’t realize the detail I was missing by capturing the other ways. Both for DV and HDV.
    Good luck with your endeavor!

  • I have the same setup and I’m not having that problem. Did you uninstall 6.2 before you installed the 6.4 drivers? I usually uninstall the older driver before I update. Also, check the “Accounts” preference pane in System Preferences, click on the login tab and see what is loading at startup. You may have a third party item that is conflicting at startup.

    Good luck!

We’d all prefer to key from better tape formats, but sometimes you deal with the tapes your handed 😉

I purchased 4x1GB sticks from OWC, but had to return them due to ECC errors. Purchased same from transintl and have had no problems. Their best deals seem to be on the weekends. This is not a knock or recommendation for either company…just my experience.

It is interesting, and bit unusual that the BMD folks seem to have dropped off the face of the Earth. I don’t think I’ve seen a post from them in this forum in quite a while. Maybe they’re all busy working on the next software update. I hope there’s not some sort of problem over at BMD.

Thanks for all the responses (especially the one from the iPhone…I’m jealous). I agree, the picture quality is great using ProRes(HQ). I’m just not clear about any performance hit (or gain) using the ProRes codec. Have any of you noticed if renders take longer, you get more or less streams of real time video compared to uncompressed 8 or 10 bit? Or is it about the same? And yes, I could do some full-on testing, but I go from project to project and I don’t want to experiment on a paying client :-0

    Thanks,

The connectors on the BMD breakout cable have female BNC ends. You should be able to find the adaptors at a Radio Shack or other electronics store. I don’t have a G-Tech drive, but have read good things about them. A 2-drive external raid might be OK for standard def work, but might not give you real-time HD. Here is a link to the BMD info on data rates and you can compare it to the G-Tech specs.

    Hi Dan,
I’m not an expert on what the signal of video game consoles is on their component outputs. My hunch is it is either standard or HD component depending on the console and should work fine. You might try posting over in the Blackmagic forum on the COW and see if someone over there is familiar with this use of the HD Extreme card.

    Good luck!
