When you say it doesn’t work, are you looking at your computer monitor
or output through your video card to an NTSC monitor?
Because either of the ways you said you captured should work.
Capture to uncompressed or DV or DVCPRO50, doesn’t matter.
Your sequence should be 29.97. Anamorphic I didn’t do.
My job is in 4 by 3, but that shouldn’t matter either.

Remember SD doesn’t do 24p. That’s in the HD world.
That camera makes a kludge attempt at 24p by
repeating every third frame or so. You still have to
capture and edit at 29.97 SD. You should be seeing
2 frames followed by 1 repeated frame, then 2 more frames, etc.
What video output card do you use?

    I assume you used the SDX900 camera set to 24p DVCPRO50 ?
I just finished a show where we used this camera.
We rented the SD930 deck and transfered all the tapes to DigiBeta,
then input regularly from the DigiBeta deck
and used a regular 29.97 sequence.
No trouble with the pulldown or sync.
The third frame is just a repeat when you look at it frame by frame.

What deck are you using to input to FCP,
and what output of the deck, SDI or Firewire?

October 26, 2006 at 5:19 am in reply to: Using multiple clips for each angle of a multi-clip?

First, it doesn’t matter what the source footage format is,
as long as you capture it to the same format. So if you have HDV
and DV, I’d suggest capturing all at DV level. You can uprez after you do
    your roughcut.

Now, to make multiclips, you can do this two ways, from simultaneous
timecode on all the cameras, or from some a similar thing that happens
on all the cameras at the same time, like music or a flash or a voice,
whatever. You just mark that point on each camera and then group
the cameras, then make a multiclip. It’s all in the manual or help section.
Capture the footage the correct way first, that is to say, you mark
in and out points on each reel to create a batch list.Don’t ever capture by hitting “capture now”.
With each reel, in the log and capture window, enter the camera angle
in the angle box. This tells FCP how to put your muliclip together
when you get to that point. Then follow the directions on how to make
your multiclips. It works very well. Even better than AVID.

Nattress is great for converting 30i to 24p.
Only $100 or so. Such a deal.
But rendering is a bitch. It takes awhile.

I just used it to match the Panny SDX900 24p SD look
to a DigiBeta 790 30i. It looked fantastic.
Actually, better than an Panny, but that’s just because
I like the Sony look better. But I digress.

    Wayne,

I had some questions for you about your TerraBlock 12D.
If you had time to send me an email at dan@rylow.com,
I would appreciate it. I’m about to go HD and will require
a new RAID to replace my 4 drive MacGurus/ Sonnet setup
(which has been flawless by the way) and don’t know
about the TerraBlock 12D. If I could ask you a few things,
    that would be very helpful.

    Thanks in advance,
    Dan

I’ve uprezzed many multicam shows (that’s doing basically the same thing
you need to do with MM) and I never collapse multicam angles.
And why are you capturing all your angles if you are consolidating?
Why capture three angles of a four angle multiclip when you don’t need to?

I’d do MM without collapsing multicam items and then not
ask MM to add the unused angles.

Having said that, MM works OK, but it still does not
capture my still frames. It lists them but doesn’t capture them.

October 9, 2006 at 8:31 pm in reply to: Does compressor have trouble with crossfades?

What I did, and I did this back in compressor 1.5 is
go into the encode area (in the preset you use) then to GOP
and set this (group of pictures) to low, like 7.
What this does is compress on a less number of
frames at a time for a much better result.
This is typically done when compression artists customize a
compression job. So you lose some space this way
since you are doing it for the entire encode.
All this does is increase the file size a bit.
This is not a problem if your show is 30 or 60 minutes.
and not an issue at all a 1 or 2 minute sequences.

Try it to see what you think.

October 8, 2006 at 9:45 pm in reply to: Multi Clip Won’t Play All Screens

If you have rendered the sequence and have a blue line at the top,
you can’t play back the multiple screens at the same time.
    See if that’s the problem.

This might not be what you are asking, but to keep each
camera in the same box in the multiclip, you assign a
number or a letter in the “angle” box in the log and capture
window, or you can do it in the browser column after you
log or even after you capture. I use a,b,c,d,e, but you could
    use 1,2,3,4,5. etc.
Now when you make your multiclips, cam 1 will always be
in the left top box, etc.
