    Thanks Bob.
    Good info.
    More to think about.

    So,
how about this setup, a Sony PVM20L5 for editor monitor/
color correction and a 42 inch good quality Plasma hanging
above the editor desk (which I could see as well) for the
director/client to watch? That way I could adjust levels
and color correct on a reliable CRT but also see what the majority
of home viewers will be watching in HD.
    Yes/no ?

    Steve,

If you were to spend more money, it would be on an SDI monitor card
versus something slightly larger? Just wondering about
monitoring 16 by 9 with 18 or 19 inch diagonal. I’m about to
have to purchase an HD monitor when we move to HD and
I’m wondering if this is large enough for producer or
director people to view as I’m editing. Does Sony make
something in the PVM line that’s 24 inches perhaps?

Have you seen the Apple 30 inch LCD used for HD monitoring
and if so, is it not the right way to go because of color balance,
contrast and other issues? Should we stick with a CRT ?

    Thanks,
    Dan

Well, I know this is the AJA forum but why not consider
the Aurora Pipe Studio? I’ve got it and love it.
Had the KONA 2 before and had my dealer take it back.
Not many monitoring or output options. And loads of
audio troubles. Had to convert the AES out just to monitor
your editing. Had this strange helicoptering audio every time
I would start or stop the timeline.
Only doing SD right now anyway. The Pipe Studio’s outputs
all work at the same time, component, composite, SDI,
s-video. No patching, special pigtails or whatever.
Everything connects to the breakout box.
No delay between the timeline and output. No offset.
It’s a sweet system. And i love the single frame stop mode.
It operates just like a digbeta. Stop and have a nice still.
If you want to see both frames, no problem. Just change
the pref. My opinion is AJA has more marketing money
so you hear about them more, but Aurora makes a very good
product too. And it runs all outputs at the same time.
Great for running dubs of VHS, BetaSP, DigiBeta,
SDI monitor and a Waveform monitor all at the same time.

    Just one man’s opinion.
