    hi guys!

i’m capturing 24p dvcpro50 footage … the problem i have is to make the pulldown to 29.97fps … but the problem is that i if capture the footage with 29.97fps the result is that every third frame is interlaced!!! if i capture the footage with 23.98fps the audio is out of synch!!!! i go crazy with that! any help is truly appreciated!!!

That’s right. That’s what the 3:2 cadence does. Make the viewer or Canvas 100% and step through the frames counting the cadence. That’s how it distributes 24 frames over the fields of 29.97 video.

    All the best,

Your camera doesn’t record 24fps. It records at 29.97. It shoots 24fps. To spread the 24 frames over 29.97 it uses a pulldown cadence. The standard cadence is 2:3:2:3 known as 3:2 just to confuse things.

Read about it in the manual vIII p526.

    I assume you used the SDX900 camera set to 24p DVCPRO50 ?
I just finished a show where we used this camera.
We rented the SD930 deck and transfered all the tapes to DigiBeta,
then input regularly from the DigiBeta deck
and used a regular 29.97 sequence.
No trouble with the pulldown or sync.
The third frame is just a repeat when you look at it frame by frame.

What deck are you using to input to FCP,
and what output of the deck, SDI or Firewire?

When you say it doesn’t work, are you looking at your computer monitor
or output through your video card to an NTSC monitor?
Because either of the ways you said you captured should work.
Capture to uncompressed or DV or DVCPRO50, doesn’t matter.
Your sequence should be 29.97. Anamorphic I didn’t do.
My job is in 4 by 3, but that shouldn’t matter either.

Remember SD doesn’t do 24p. That’s in the HD world.
That camera makes a kludge attempt at 24p by
repeating every third frame or so. You still have to
capture and edit at 29.97 SD. You should be seeing
2 frames followed by 1 repeated frame, then 2 more frames, etc.
What video output card do you use?
