I have the USB shuttle too. I just tried finding in MC5 and it seems it only works with Avid hardware and higher end versions like adrenaline or Mojo. 1394 DV or HDV seems the only way to capture and playback to an external device.

To each his own. I can see people that need to sort through many files, trim “once” as needed before putting it on the time line. I personally don’t use it and do all my trimming on the timeline. There may be several sections of a clip I want to use, so I just split the in and out points for each section and remove the unwanted parts. By default Vegas only shows first, middle and last frames on the timeline. I switched it to all under preferences, video tab. I also make the video track taller and zoom in so it’s very easy to see what parts are where. You can still drag the edges to get back what you cut out if needed. The trimmer doesn’t do that. I don’t believe the trimmer can trim more than once either and you have to play the clip to find where you want to trim to, and with long clips, that can be very time consuming. Besides, I prefer to use the dock space for other more important things.

I have asio4all and Vegas 12 and 13 start fine. I would uninstall it and install the newest version if you need it. asio4all is an audio driver that allows low end sound cards to record with a lower latency. Higher end audio capture devices come with their own drivers that do the same thing. To uninstall, the easiest way is to open windows explorer, on your C drive, click Program Files (x86), then the folder called ASIO4ALL, inside there is an uninstall icon. Double click it and follow instructions. Hope this helps, Danny

I would try opening a new project, add a small clip, set some loop points, and see if the “render looped region only” box is accessible. If not, I don’t know anywhere in the preferences to enable, disable that. Try a system restore to before where this started happening. If that doesn’t work, try uninstalling Vegas and re-install it.

The title of your post uses the word vertical. Here’s some pics of a 4k clip in a Vegas project. My project setting were set to 1080 x 1920. This gave a vertical canvas. I used the track motion to re-size the image to fill out the black bars at the top and bottom. This of course left a lot of video to the left and right. I added two key frames,not shown in these pics, to make it pan from the left to the right in the track motion window. You can use key frames to show the area of the video you want to see.
Notice my project settings at the bottom of the preview window. Notice the 4k video size at the bottom of the project media tab. Is this what you want to do?

I have several PCs with different levels of performance with Sony Vegas Pro.
I have made some mods on a few, but the biggest difference I have seen is when I put a solid state drive in one of them.
It may not make a huge difference with rendering as that is a CPU, GPU process, But it does have to read and write every frame of video so there is some improvement. It does make a big difference with playing unaffected video within SVP. The preview monitor settings can be set to a higher quality and still see all or most of the frames. -
That is definitely not normal. Vegas is not running correctly. If restarting you PC doesn’t fix it, try “System restore” to a point before this started. If system restore isn’t enabled or doesn’t work (Error stating system restore did not work) try uninstalling Vegas and reinstall it.

If dragging the edge makes it loop. then that’s the length of the clip. You cant make a clip longer than it really is without looping or stretching as Andrew says. As far as stretching the audio too, the video event and the audio event are grouped, by default in Vegas if both are as one when you added them to the timeline. You can select both with the Ctrl key. With both highlighted, hit the “U” key and it unlocks them and you can change one without changing the other. You can regroup them by selecting both and hitting the “G” key.

I’ve added closed caption too many of the videos playing at Universal Orlando Resort venues. I did this with Sony Vegas by having the top video track use media generated text. So when I said closed caption already rendered into the video that’s what I meant. My videos have it rendered in the video. That means every frame of the video where the white letters are, which is what I used, the pixels are white. Once the video is like that, I don’t know of any software, app, plugin that can remove that because the pixels behind where the white letters are are gone. How did the closed caption get into the videos of yours in the first place? I believe you may be using some plugin or app that converts voice to text, just like Google Voice does are smart phones nowadays,. Otherwise it would show up in any video player software, NLE software.

I am a GoPro user as well. I shoot in 60p by default as none of my cameras can shoot 30p. You are right in that we may want to slow down the clip. Have you tried the Flux feature in GoPro Studio? It does a great job of slowing down videos, even way slower than half, as it creates frames based off of previous and following frames. If you haven’t, search for gopro flux on YouTube. there are some very good examples of what it can do.
