If you want to render the m2t files in vegas, fast machines will do it as m2t files. You can render to Cineform 1440 – 1080 29.97 intermediate AVI files, which vegas 8 comes with free. Not with 9 Boooo!
FCP wont work with the Cineform avi files. -
If the face is washed out where it’s white, your out of luck. Cant get video where there is none. Add a brightness and contrast plugin and experiment with it. Danny

Try setting your project settings to, Field order = None (Progressive)
Deinterlace method = Interpolate fiels, when objects move slow in the video or blend, if they move fast. Hope this helps, Danny -
Vegas 8 audio tracks by default load with three pluggins, maybe one of them is causing your problem.
Click on the audio track header, effects icon and delete them and re-render. You never said if the original recording was pure and clean. Listen to the camera with headphones and check. Also open the original Video in Windows movie maker and listen for the static, just to rule out Vegas causing it. Danny -
Does the waveform look normal in Vegas? (Not square waved)? Vegas was just an audio editor for the first two versions and can do alot with editing audio, If all else fails, try rendering the file as a Microsoft Wave, then open it in Cool Edit. Danny

Is the original source video clean? What are your render settings?

I’ve run Vegas 7 pro on a machine, 1.2 mghz and only 512m of ram without problems, just slower renders and preview refresh rate. Not sure about Movie maker.

With HDV, .m2t, you can choose not to re-compress long GOP video in your prefs, and only video with effects and transitions are taking a hit. The rest is exactly as you recorded it, and it’s smaller than uncompressed by far. Vegas 7 and 8 pro, not 9 unfortunatly includes Cineform intermediate formats that do very well. Danny

I recommend blend on fast moving video , to reduce it looking jittery. Interpolate on slower moving video.
There are some better de-interlacing programs out there, I believe I even saw one that analyzes the video, moves over one of the fields where needed to reduce it without to much degrading. Danny -
Save and Copy all media right to the ext. drive. then plug that drive into another computer with the same or newer version of Vegas and it will open. Danny
