I just tried it and it seems the presets only appear in AME when you make them in Premiere. No matter, you can make a preset right from within AME. Click the + button that is in the Preset browser, then set it to Quicktime Animation. To add an Alpha channel, set the Depth option to 32 bit. That should do the trick.

Click the small arrow next to where you select the format in the Render Queue and go to the bottom where it says “Make template”. You can name it whatever you like. This preset will be saved and will also be available in Media Encoder.

Setting the transfer mode to screen should work, or you can download Red Giant’s free Unmult plugin.

The Animation codec has an alpha channel. Make sure you set it to output RGB+Alpha in the Output Module settings. You can save that as a preset and export as many lower thirds as you would like. 🙂

Drop the Audio Waveform effect on a solid.

  • Some of lines may even be just some keyframed shape layers. The shots are so quick, it wouldn’t be hard to do manually.

Instead of precomposing your text, you could also make a new solid (or square shape layer) and drag the edge to where you want the text to start appearing (not covering your text). Make sure it’s the layer above your text layer and set your text layer to Inverted Alpha Matte. The solid will become invisible and this will make the text appear wherever the solid isn’t. I like this method because it allows you to edit your text without making a new precomp. Then you can see how it looks in the comp without going back and forth. It’s really just a matter of preference in most cases.

You could probably use 3D Stroke and add a Turbulent Displace or Roughen edges, along with the glow effect. Draw a mask where you want the electricity to travel, then apply the 3D Stroke and animate it (regular stroke should work too). Then add the other effects and tweak to your liking.

Trapcode Particular could also work, especially if you want to emit some auxiliary particles to make it appear a little more organic.

Could you just import the Powerpoint text as a photo, or do you need to manipulate the text in After Effects?

Hmm… 12Mbps is definitely high enough. It should look very crisp and clean.

Maybe try another conversion program like Adobe Media Encoder or MPEG Streamclip (free download) and see if you get the same results. If your clip is long, just export a small section to test it.
