Depends how realistic you want it. Do you want the page to kind of melt away, or do you need flames, smoke, pages curling, etc?

February 5, 2015 at 8:32 pm in reply to: Solo layer must be clicked or layer invisibleCan you see any layers without the solo button clicked? If not, Jeff is probably correct and there is hidden or locked layer that is solo’d, but not visible in your comp view.

I typically wait forever to update my OS. However, I recently got a new Mac that obviously already came with Yosemite installed. I thought I would try it and have had zero issues running AE CC 2014 with all sorts of plugins on it. Maybe I’m just one of the lucky ones…

There are others who are far more knowledgeable on the technological side of things than I am and I’m sure they’ll provide you with good advice, but here are my $0.02.
1. Unless you have really fast, expensive internet (or Google Fiber!), editing off of Dropbox sounds like a pain. You’re basically limiting your system to your internet speed, and having to read and write constantly to the cloud will slow things way down.
2-3. I would recommend editing off of the Solid State thunderbolt drive. Your internal drives speed are likely either 5400 or 7200rpm, and a solid state drive can more than double the speed the internal ones can achieve. If you’re switching back and forth, this makes it easier if you keep your projects consolidated on one drive as well (with a backup of course. Maybe use Dropbox for that).
I would also add more RAM to your iMac. I also have a MBP with 8GB of RAM that does the job for now when I need to be portable, but switching between that and a 32GB machine is like night and day.
Good luck!

Yep, that seems normal. If size is an issue, you could probably set the bit rate to 6 or 7mbps and still get a very good looking video on Vimeo at half the size.

February 2, 2015 at 4:18 pm in reply to: naming conventions for temporary compositions and layers?I find short, descriptive names and abbreviations to be helpful, along with color coding your layers. Some are obvious: BG for background, CC for color correction, etc. I like to color my lights yellow, if there is text, I try to color the layer the same as the color of the text. There is no one correct way to do it; I think you just need to find what works best for you.

Great! Glad it worked. 🙂
