It’s just a really strong vignette and color grading. You could look up Red Giant’s Magic Bullet or other look presets.

Exporting to .swf from After Effects was removed a few years ago (CC2014 I believe). You can either install an older version of After Effects to convert it or use Flash.

You can use an AI file by copying the paths in AI and pasting them into After Effects. You can’t just use an image file with Plexus.

Scale up the flare so it is really large and mask it to the shape of your engine, then track it to the spaceship. Or you can do the same with a few solid layers by adding a wiggle expression on the opacity and a nice glow.

Copy your paint effect onto a solid and turn Paint on Transparent to On.

If your video is for YouTube, you should export at the original frame rate… What effects specifically did you use? Rendering time varies dramatically based on this. It may be perfectly normal for a 5 minute video to take this long on a computer with your specs.

Here’s a tutorial with Chris’s shape layer solution. It may seem a little tricky at first, but once you understand shape layers, you’ll wonder how you ever got by without them.

I haven’t watched this tutorial, but it looks like there is some basic skin replacement techniques here.
