Let Telestream know you need this feature, they are a very receptive company and release updates with regularity (more so than most other products I know of). I know a number of people have asked for this recently.

It really depends what you are looking for in this type of application; Squeeze is easy to use but as a result has a dumbed down interface and doesn’t give access to advanced transcoding tools, filters and so on.
IMHO on the PC you can’t beat Procoder from Grass Valley and on the Mac it’s got to be Episode from Telestream. Both better squeeze in performance, output quality and features. Neither are much harder to learn or use than Squeeze as long as you keep the manuals close to hand.

Your standard def aspect ratios are wrong. Remember that 720×576 is 4:3 (1.333) using non-square pixels. Web CDROM etc all use square pixels.

By trying a non-ref file you can at least try to eliminate that as the cause of the truncated transcodes.
Procoder is one of the fastest MPEG-2 transcoders of its type, my worry with the Firecoder card would be if it can achieve the same quality as Procoder in ‘Mastering mode’

Procoder is one of the best out there. I’d try using a non-ref QT for starters to see if that makes a difference, but really you should upgrade to the latest version of Procder.

Of course, easy, no problem at all. I’d happily take money off people for that kind of work.
That said, only an uncompressed AVI from a high quality source would be much use transcoded to ProRes.

Well, call me old fashioned but the traditional route would be to film, and record to tape/disc. Ingest into an editor, edit, and export to a transcoder like, episode, procoder or squeeze to produce the final output.
The bottom line is that the final step should be to the delivery codec, in your case FLV, going to FLV early in the workflow would, IMHO, be a complete waste of time.

If you have Final Cut Studio 2 then you should also have an application called compressor which should have no problem creating MPEG-2 to those specs.

1. If you’re on a PC and using Premiere you could try this:
https://www.flash-video-mx.com/flv_importer/2. Yes – it’ll need to be re-compressed, and I’m fairly sure you’ll need to re-compress with the the flv_importer, above.
