I just bought and watched Aharon R’s great compression DVD.

In it, he says that by the time I watch it, it will be out of date. Since I don’t know when it was made, I was wondering if Squeeze is still the best overall package.

It really depends what you are looking for in this type of application; Squeeze is easy to use but as a result has a dumbed down interface and doesn’t give access to advanced transcoding tools, filters and so on.

IMHO on the PC you can’t beat Procoder from Grass Valley and on the Mac it’s got to be Episode from Telestream. Both better squeeze in performance, output quality and features. Neither are much harder to learn or use than Squeeze as long as you keep the manuals close to hand.

Thanks for the tip Danny! I will try the demo of Episode.

Episode looks like a tweakers delight – lot’s of settings!

Sadly, it doesn’t support cue points yet. Looks like I will stick with Squeeze for awhile yet.

Let Telestream know you need this feature, they are a very receptive company and release updates with regularity (more so than most other products I know of). I know a number of people have asked for this recently.

Thanks for the suggestion. I might have to stick to Mac apps for this project since we have some decicated Mac heads in the loop.

But I will keep this one in mind for future project.

Rhozet (Harmonic) have a great product, it would be so much better if they released a Mac version (which they won’t do). Until that imaginary date, Episode rules, on the Mac.
