Turns out I need to deliver a 4:3 letterboxed DVD that will be played off of a DVD player at an event.
Once again it is a 1080 60i FCP project. If someone could tell me how to export or compress it to get the best quality DVD that I will create in iDVD, i would really appreciate it. If you could let me know exact settings and how to to create the settings, that would be great. I am not too experienced with changing settings in compressor.

Not sure how to minipulate the settings in compressor. I have dvd studio, but have not used it before. Right now I am exporting from FCP to compressor using the existing settings for “Best Quality DVD” for SD and 1 for HD. Will this improve the quality…or am I wasting my time? It is showing that it will take about 5 hours to complete the compressions.

I would like to keep the cost about $600 or less…and would be willing to reduce the size of the drive if need be to keep the costs where I need them to be.
Can you also explain to me what a Raid drive actually is? And what is an Array? And it seems there are several types of Raid…what do the numbers mean and which one do I want in order to best back up and protect my media and my projects?

One more thing I failed to mention…I do not want to spend too much on the drive, but know you often get what you pay for. Bottom line… I want the best product for the money.

I don’t have a kona card…so any other solutions you can thin of? Will FCP allow me to import at 1080 30p and then drop into timeline and render?

ok…thank you, that info was very helpful. I still can;t figure out how to bring up the dialogue box to select “Deinterlace your clip”. Could you please tell me how to get there?

I still need some help here. If I may…let me explain what I am doing and hopefully you can explain how to fix it.

1) In FCP, I am selecting “Export using Compressor”
2) Once inside Compressor I select the “Web” Folder and then select “Quicktime Compatible”
3) I select H.264 800kbs & H.264 300 kbs
4) Select Desktop as destination
5) Submit

With these settings, I get squeezed video

I am assuming that I will need to select a compression format that allows me to change the settings because when I try to do it with the settings above, it does not allow me to change anything. So…Can you please walk me through the process starting at the point I went wrong? Sorry but I am a newbie at this.
