You guys have taken this way over my head.
can anyone dumb this down for me?
I am exporting from FCP. what codec allows me to adjust color depth? I can’t find any.
The client seems to think other vendors using FCP have delivered masters that are correct. Question is how that is possible?
I think the client is misusing the terminology, claiming that a DV/DVC Pro ntsc master is 32 bit.
(not that I understand what is going on here)Dale

Ok guys,
lets focus.
He stated he was nitrus 5.0 and being upgraded tomorrow. Since I don’t follow Avid, you may be correct.
Point is he has an avid and a Digital Rapids Systems which is the animal that seem to not like the DV/DVC ntsc SD master I sent him, once he has added titles and exported to the Digital Rapids.to make it more odd, he claims that master is in 32 bit color.
I have a feeling the “post supervisor” is messing up some terms.
he wants UYVY MODE 16 BIT COLOR DEPTH.
Need some other theories.

Thanks guys,
I have dusted off my Decks and will give it a whirl. In the mean time, I did try converting my HD timeline to SD widescreen using AME – microsofts AVI at the standard dv/dvcpro ntsc setting.
took that into my Final Cut and dumping that out as a mov in apple prores. Still rendering out. then I will compare that to the tape out and back in to mac route.
I will post my results. Why did I not just edit in the Mac, you are asking? (probably)
the render times from HD time lines is 4 times faster in the PC than in my mac.
Can’t afford a new mac. Didn’t think I needed one until this project came up.Dale

thanks Mike,
I will give that a try.
I hate to keep going down generations but
I suppose things are “lossless” in this digital environment.the DVD author wants to do the conversion to Mpeg-2. he just wants a mov file. (he is mac) I am considering laying off to tape and encode back to my mac to generate the mov file, again assuming things are lossless.

no the individual clips, when you park on then , show “media offline”
there is no XML list or foriegn timeline.I had a drive fail and was just reconnecting to the backups.
same folder names (except for the first folder)
shoud be a quick reconnect.NORMALLY, I can reconnect one shot and all shots from that clip fill in.
I normally reconnect the clips in the bin and then the timelines populate.
this is not happening today.
all clips in the bin are connected, but the timelines remain
UN connected.
like I said, this is new install, so I am thinking some box somewhere is not checked, that was before.where is the thumbnail cashe??
thanks for the help, by the way.

November 21, 2008 at 3:25 pm in reply to: compressor changes the “estimated time remaining”no I have tried many different sources.
I did download a “compressor repair” late last night and ran a piece.
IT COMPLETED!
so I have another running now, fingers crossed.

By force render, you mean going and checking every “render item” available in settings?
or are there specific ones to check? For example, I have a seven minute sequence in DVCPRO HD. (no render need for playback, just simple title over one video layer) this is a watermark not a title from Live type or FCP.
I checked all the render boxes and the machine wanted an hour to render.
the same timeline exported as a QT file takes 15 min.
I just need a WMV final product in the simplest/quickest workflow.
Ron Craig mentioned he can do titles. please tell me the circumstances.
HD, SD, where the titles come from?any thoughts?

i just checked for updates on everything including flip4.
I am up to date.
I am using single cbr, simple DV timlines.
You can do layers? & titles?
Maybe I need to reinstall. I had a friend on a mac with FCP try it and he can’t do layers either

Bob,
curious as to what the outcome on the unrendered parts.I have the same issue on WMV exports.
I think it has something to do with layers.
single layer of video goes out perfectly.
